Went 4x4ing today up to Harrison West.

We started out with the Weaver-Francis traverse, then went over to Sunrise and had lunch while we shot off a few rounds from the spud cannon. We played around on the V-rock on our way back down, and the other truck we were with (stock 86 or 87 toy p/u with welded rear) went up the v-rock in reverse easier than I've seen most people go up it forwards, lol It was quite the sight [15]

They're doing a ton of new logging up there right now, so there's fresh skidder trails everywhere. So on the way home we explored a bunch of these new trails. Some pretty fun ones -- too bad most of them don't really go anywhere.

We took tons of pictures (~150). Here's a couple of them:

lol, thanks Lizard :D

I wouldn't say Sunrise is a major destination for a trip, but its a nice quick side trail to go up and stop to have lunch by the lake, and maybe go swimming off the rope swing for a bit. [8D]

The only real obstacle is the v-rock. It isn't too hard, but it can be challenging if you try some of the harder lines.

Great pics. I'll use some for picture of the week! That loop always a great drive. Did you hit any snow at the alpine?

Ya, the loop is fun. That was my first time going up it though -- before that I had only ever gone down it from the other direction.

There are some fun looking skidder trails that we didn't try (running out of time, and looked too hard for us), but I think they would make a great trail for a 4-to-1 type of challenge :D Maybe we could incorperate one of these trails into the family BBQ day down at the lake?

Nope, no snow anywhere on the trip -- not even little bits on the side of the road.

Had a little bit of carnage on the trip too, but the camera was full by that point s we didn't get any pics. :( The dude in the grey Toy broke one of the leafs in his rear driver side pack right in half -- it was the second one in the pack. Luckily that was just from playing around at the end of the day so we were on our way home anyway.

Hey that Sunrise Lk, is the shoreline all weedy?? does it have "beach front" (somewhere to take the kids for a nice swim with area to have a day picnic??)[?]

Its not weedy at all -- at least not at this time of year, but it might get a little bit later on once it warms up a bit??

There is a great rope swing and cliff jumping (not big cliffs, just 10 or 20 feet). And in some of the pics you can see the dock floating out in the lake thats alays fun to swim out to. It doesn't really have much of a "beach front" but its still a great place to go for a picnic and a swim. [8D]

I didn't check the water when I was up there, but the lake is pretty high so I have a feeling it'll be fairly cold this early in the year -- although I did see a guy with a towel who looked like he had just been swimming so it can't be that bad :D

Oh, and if you're looking for beach front type stuff, you can always head down Hale creek (just across the road from the Sunrise turnoff) to Harrison Lk and go for a swim there after lunch. [3]
