Well, i am goin to do a 302 swap on my 87 4runner, but i need some info first, probly a c4, and married d20 t case, what gears should i runn in the axels to turn 36's? probly 4:56? or will 4:10 do it?
as well, does a np208 have a lower low range, or the same? and is the 2 high range the same??

high range is 1:1
low ranges are close on the 20 and 208
the 208 is longer
the 20 uses a crappy design for engaging low range IIRC it is a sliding gear
ford 20 is lower geared then other versions

sounds like you are building an early bronco in an import

ford transmission ratios

FORD NP435 6.69,3.34,1.79,1.00
T18 6.32,3.09,1.69,1.00
T19 5.11,3.03,1.79,1.00
T98 6.40,3.09,1.69,1.00
FORD A4OD 2.40,1.47,1.00,0.71
FORD E4OD 2.71,1.53,1.00,0.67
C6 2.46,1.46,1.00
C4 automatic 2.46,1.46:1,1:1

Ford transfercase ratios

Gear drive

Dana Spicer mod 20
66-72 2.46
73and on 2.34
NP205 1.98

Chain drive

NP208 2.61
BW 1345 2.72
BW 1356 2.72

If i was going to all the trouble of this swap i wouldnt use a c4 i think i would go for an np435 and if you want a gear drivin transfercase the 2.46 Dana 20 or if you want a bit more gearing and you dont mind chaindrive the np208 or 1345 /1356 found under later fords will work .The aluminum cases rarely break from tourque it is normally low oil or direct hits that do them in(skid plate) Hope this helps

Why the ford, or have we had this conversation before?

I like the automatic personally, maybee cause I'm gettin old and don't want to be pumpin the left leg as much, but they're just easier on carnage.

What are you doing for the front end?

well, with the info from barracuda and mj, aswell as okor before (different post) i think i will go with a c4 with an external cooler, or a c6, which ever comes along sooner, and an np208, i dont mind chain drive, and i didnt think the case will break.

Okor, i will be using a d44 out of a bronco or ranger, must have disk so i think it will be 76 and later (newer)

and mj, basically i guess it is a bronco at heart, the toy outside is just cuase i have it in the yard.....

thanks for all th info, any more info you think i could use is appreciated...
