This is the sj410 that I was going to turn into my service truck but am now going to build up for mom to drive.

I have lots more pics but they need to be loaded to my web site. Going to chopping my 87 tintop this weekend to make a pickup cab. So there will be lots of pics as the weekend rolls along.

I'm tossing around the idea of selling my quad ('02 400 Kodiak) and getting a Suzuki because I like how small they are. I would like other people's opinions on which year is best and why. My wife used to have a '93 Sidekick 2door, and I like that body style as well as the EFI. What year was last year for solid axles, when did EFI come into the picture? What is the availibility of low gears and lockers?
Thankx
Kevin

Kevin, it depends on what you are talking about.

Sami's were all solid axle. They are quick to lift with a spoa and tcase gears are plentiful. Problem is rust and tiny engines, nothing a 1.6 swap wouldnt cure.

Trackicks were all IFS. If you buy one let me know I will sell you my IFS lift kit. 33's and up you need to go solid axle.

and sammi efi came on the scene in 91 right?
85 has 3.90 gears, all others have 3.73.
trackers have 4.63 gears or 5.13.
gears are relativaly plentyful. lockers are cheap and work good.

You can actually get EFI on Samurais starting in 1990. That's also when they started making them with a/c (even though it's very rare to find one). I know where there's one in Coquitlam with a/c and EFI. It's been sitting for 5 years (now the body is puss)and the goon won't sell it. [16]Such a shame.

Thanks guys. I'll keep my eyes open for a sammy. There's a tracker for sale local for $400, rusty body, but apparently good driveline. Will the gears from an IFS tracker/kick swap into the sammy diffs? For $400, I would like to get the efi plus the low gears and keep looking for a sammy.

Take it easy on Tuner's pants. I've got the same one's and until you wear them they look a little goofy. Wear them for a day and you won't want to take them off. They are by far the best 80 bux I've ever spend on an article of clothing. Try dropping molten metal on the front pocket of your coveralls and see how long you dance for. [29]

Of all my friends, I like beer the best!

kootney cat, the fronts will, but the rear tracker is larger then the sammi rear. you need 2 fronts to make it work.

So, you're saying the ring and pinion from the front diff of an IFS will fit into the rear (and front) diff of a sammy? Cool! There is an '89 Sidekick JX for sale for parts in the local paper for $400. Rusty, but apparently runs well. Doesn't say if an auto or manual. I will have to check it out. Is this a reasonable price for a complete parts rig as long as the drivetrain is ok? I'm a Chevy guy, so I don't have a clue as to Suzuki pricing!

$400 is a steal for a complete truck. Especially if it runs well. The motor and computer are worth up to $1000 depending on milage, etc. Plus Sidekick guys always need some sort of small knick knack here and there. I'm still selling shit from my donor truck 2 years ago.
The thirds will fit into Sammy diffs (front and rear), but I would recomend switching the ring and pinion to the Sammy thirds. Sidekick thirds are aluminum and much weaker than cast Sammy ones. You will need to buy 2 ring gear spacers from Breeze Industries to switch them over.
