Im wondering what i should be looking for. How much play is allowable in the main bearing etc. It would be a 5spd for a toyota.

From the replies ive gotten im starting to think you guys think im talking about cruising the streets of downtown Vancouver! Transmision for truck, how you buy?

It's pretty tough to check a transmission out unless you can drive it or take it apart! Pull the drain plug and get one of those long magnets and fish around the bottom of the case, if you find particles bigger then dust, then probably not a good one. Filings are a bad sign! The input shaft will always have some play, because it rides on the pilot bearing in the crank. Most wreckers will give you at least a 30 day warranty, but if it's private, it's buyer beware!
