If you're looking at lifting an early Explorer (or Ranger for that matter!), check out this site....
I found all the info I needed when I was going to lift the Wife's '93 XLT, then we found some sucker, er, I mean some nice couple to buy it!

hey 4xjoy, I just went 4x4ing with Kevin yesterday and we talked about HIS explorer! so I'm not going crazy just for the record!!! (though maybe Fun Girl has some sort of connection with kevin? and its "there" explorer?)

Hey Fenz,,,Ann ( Kevins wife ) has taken over the ford ,,, ITS officially HER truck although Kevin still calls it his from time to time ! Shes on the board here as ryjgirl (Rusty Yellow Jeep girl )hat what Kevin originally called himself on here till someone thought hairy whiteass was more apropriate for HIM !

yup and I gather she is now Fun Girl.... Lighten up thefenz.... I was only teasin'.... I've been married long enough that mine doesn't listen either. You are one up on me.... In the year I have been on this board I have yet to meet Kevin, Bruce, and the rest of the 4x group due to distance, lousy timing or disasters. Sorry I upset you.
Are we havin' fun yet?!?!

Well anyway back to the topic. So how much you guys think it would cost to lift my truck 4" or 6" if it isnt THAT much more? ive looked on that website above but I'm no goo with this stuff and really need some help thanks.

Sorry I should have given a heads up. It was ether Fun_girl or Harry_ whiteass girl and she didn't like the latter that much.
If money is not a problem I would go with a straight axle Dana 44 it the front with locker. That would run you about $4000.00 installed.
My, (sorry I mean Fun_girl's) Explorer has a 2 in body and 4 inch Trail Master lift,33" tires 4:10 gears and has ARB lockers front and back.
I have to say that Explorer has been awesome, back in 1992 I was the only one that had a lifted Explorer and it has taken me on every trail and back again!! The best part is you can pack lots of gear and sleep two people in the back.
For strictly wheeling, in my humble opinion there is nothing better in B.C. then a short wheel base truck. This is why I have a CJ5, but for 90% of the trails and comfort and storage the Explorer has been 2nd to none.
I don't run the Explorer much any more just for the fact that it's extremely expensive to maintain two active 4x4's Bruce gets the most use out of Ford off-road for family camping. There are only a few people I trust to drive it off-road and only one rule, if it breaks when you drive it you pay for all repairs regardless of what breaks.
