lift the cap and make sure the rotor is actually turning when you are attempting to start !Stripped distributer gear) Or possible the distributer pickup !

check to see if your getting power to the coil you should get batt. voltage to the coil with the key on . if yes . make sure you still got it when cranking .sounds like it could be an ignition wiring problem . broken wire anywhere from the ignition key down .You have tilt steering? if yes move the tilt up and down and try to start could be a broken wire in the harness .
Good luck .

HEY 4REST...I HAD THE SAME PROB WITH MY JEEP...GOT FUEL BLAH BLAH BLAH AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE A STRIPPED CAM GEAR.(shyte!)THE EASIEST WAY TO CHECK A STRIPPED CAM GEAR IS OBVIOUS...TAKE THE DIST.CAP OFF AND TURN THE ROTOR...IF YOU CAN SPIN IT YOUR CAM GEAR OR DIST.GEAR IS STRIPPED.THE PRICE FOR MINE ARE AS FOLLOWS...CAM GEAR $120 AND THE DIST.GEAR $70 AND NOT TO MENTOIN THE PAIN IN THE ASS IT IS TO CHANGE THEM!!!(fawk!).BUT I HAVE A 360 IN MY YJ.I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU GOT IN YOURS BUT I CAN IMAGINE THAT IT CANT BE ANY LESS OF A PAIN IN THE ASS!? BUT DONT FEEL TOO BAD BECAUSE THE DUMB ASS THAT I AM ... I WARRENTIED MY MSD OFFROAD BOX AN MSD DIST.CAP AND CHANGED THE COIL BEFORE I CHECKED THE CAM GEAR. YOUR THE SMARTER ONE BETWEEN THE TWO OF US AND ASKED FOR A SUGGESTION FIRST.p.sYOUR COIL MAY BE DRAWING POWER FROM THE POS. TERMINAL IF YOUR GEARS ARE STRIPPED???---MINE DID...CONFUSED THE HELL OUT OF ME.ANYWAYS ...GOOD LUCK IN FINDING YOUR PROBLEM AND I HOPE IT'S NOT TOOOOOO SERIOUS.

PARTY HARD ...THEN GO WHEELIN!:-)

well still no spark!
I have battery voltage to the coil when it is un plugged.
when I plug it back in the voltage drops to 6.5 what the
f***, ready to blow it up![28][28][28]

are the gears stripped or not??
the little carbon button in your dist. may be eroded away, therefor not giving the spark to your dist.
maybe its a fuel problem...are you getting fuel...is your pump working?
it still sounds like my problem...gears were stripped! D'OH!!!
let me know and i might be able to give you more ideas.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Gears are not stripped. Iam going to pull the dist. out and have it
bench checked, if that is a possible thing.[?]

Have you checked you ign. module??? (both of them you tried?) It may just be your key switch wire to your module out of your column. Or the wire from your module to your coil,...if your module is not getting enough voltage...that may also be a prob???...trace the wires in and out of your module and make sure they are all in good condition.Check what RUNT said about your tilt (if you have it?).good luck and let me know!:))ill give you my cell # and if i have any more sugg. I will be happy to give them to you.CHECK YOUR PM.

well the dist seems to be okay, checked for correct resistance and it
is within the specs.
do you think it could be the ecm under the dash? how do i check this out?

thanks for all the help.

did you notice if your timing was out 180 deg. before you took the dist out?
if it was... it wont start.before you rip your dash apart... set your timing up again...TDC on the balancer...(take out your #1 plug and have somebody put their finger over the hole...and when they feel pressure against their finger rotate the engine slowly until the mark on the balancer is at TDC.)When you put the dist. back in you have to turn the rotor 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise before you slide it on the gear.make sure all of your wires are going to the right cyl...and try to fire it up again. If that doesnt work THEN try to check the ECM.I dont know where yours is ...(under the dash I mean)...mine is easy to get at...under the hood.

By the way... where do you live???---in Van or in the Okanogan?

Little off topic...

Have you already checked this guy out for parts? Can't remember what you needed if anything
