After seing the pics from postal and Magna girl all covered in mud I was going to ask if you guys knew how to put together a hot water shower from your trucks ! Im interested to see how you did it ! We have had the showers in the trucks for 7-8 years now and its a good thing (To quote Martha )We also run a coil of copper in the fire to heat up hot tubs ! That works great as well!

Oh I got the coolest heat exchanger you will ever see.! Taz has seen it and wants. Hopefully he will come over and take pictures. I'm in that line of work, so it is second nature to me.(hvac tech.) I could even come up with formula's to figure out the btu's it is giving up and or how long it would take heat up a body of water(hottub) to the minute.
Trying to come up with a cheaper model. The heat exchanger is about $350.00(did I mention very cool).Next project onboard beer frig. That one is easy, time is the problem.Imagine that, I'm willing to make a onboard frig. before I make onboard air. What's up with that???

Just ask Taz about it. Demonstrated it on Monday and I thought Taz was going to strip right there in the front yard and try it.:)Just kidding. I think he liked it.

The heat exchanger we have made was all down out of copper and silver soldered ! The one for under the hood I think If I remember right was about 50 dollars in rough material !It took about 3 hours to make ! It works great ,, Fairly compact and puts out shower tempurature water(APROX 106*) at about 1100 rpm,, if you like a really hot shower just bump the rpm up an extra 100 or 200 ,, Gets too hot to stay in !The biggest cost is in the 12 volt pumps we are using ! As we also use them for on demand water in the laundry tub we pack along family camping to use as a kitchen sink they have to have a pressure switch on them ! SO they shut of when the tap is shut of ,,, and turn on when you open the tap ! No more going down to the creek or lake to get water ! :)

No kidding the pump is the major cost. Right now the water comes out 160 at 600-650 rpm. Looking into another pump with a little more gpm.Alttle warm but I am able to control the temp by the amount of gpm going thru the heat exchanger.Heat exchanger is very efficient. What I'm looking forward to is washing the rig in the middle winter with hot water. Now that is going to be cool.

Oh Ya,,, I forgot to mention that we use a pump that puts out 40 psi at 4.5 gpm ,, with a slower pump it would be much hotter !Also ,, rmember you dont want to idle a gas engine to long as you wont get any oil to your valve train,,, so its better to be running at a rpm over a 1000 then lower !

Quick showers are the ticket. Not heating a hot tub. Another project for that. Another heat exchanger for that. Should have pictures later.

Yes, he would have indeed stripped right there, and I wouldn't have been far behind-that water was just tooooo inviting. It's on my wish list! Maybe pics can be taken this weekend if you have some time between studying those books

Did you take any pictures of the trucks hot water set up yet? I sure would like to see what it looks like. We would have to run the truck along time to heat a tub in the summer let alone the winter. You could use copper in the fire and insulate the top of the water with a couple of tarps or foam.

I am still trying to think how we can get hot water in the hunting tent using the wood stove and copper.

No pictures yet. I don't own a d-camera yet.
Water in a tent is easy. All you need is a storage tank to make that work. What were you thinking of??? Air over heat exchanger or in floor heating?? Or both. Man, if I had a skanner I could draw it out in seconds.
