View Full Version : Holy separating diffs batman!

I was driving home tonight and as I was just getting on the Hwy. I started too smelt diff oil. Then I got off the Hwy. and headed down 184th and the steering felt loose. I thought it must be my steering box getting loose again so I keep driving thinking I would tighten it when I get home. Turning the corner to home and I had no brakes, this can't be good!

I pulled over to have a look thinking I might be a brake line. I get to the passenger side of the jeep and couldn't believe it. My tire and axle shaft was pulled out of the diff and I had about 4" before it was going to fall out!!

Just what I need another fix it bill. This is the fourth time I have had to fix the bearing and seal on that side and the last time was fixed at Jeep Thrills. The tube must be out of round. Luckily Mike
gave me his rear end and I have something to swap.

Now the only thing I can hope for is that Lyle(Blazer) doesn't read this or I will never hear the end of it. I can hear it now "is it time for a Jeep joke"

Now on the good side. It happened very close to home and not deep in the bush going through a muddy rocky challenging trail at night in the rain at 2 in the morning!!

OMIGOD... Kevin, I am sooooo sorry to see this picture.... It was a good thing you were not in the bush... or maybe worse on the freeway in a critical turn... Hope this fix is final for you for a while... You must be running short of children to sell... [I know, I know... they are cheep to make!]
I'm back on the road but no off-road til we change the clutch. We did a big tune up and found the brake vib in the front end, the rotors were warped. Did bearings out, except calipers as they were ok. Sure stops better!!!
Tracker has been put on hold as Rob is working all the time at the moment and I am preparing for the Ladies Fishing Derby this weekend. I went last year and it was a blast... I am the Dogfish Queen!!!

Was that Mikie... King of the monkeys??? I heard he got a CAR!!!

And Lyle... no Cheep jokes

Remember Boulderhopper... in life there are those who tow, those who are towed and those who will be towed!!!

Am too fun!
Is that a towing flat deck? Be nice to know # of "reliable" road help on that side of the big water!!! Especially if kid moves to town...

Kevin ... was the pin problem and this seal problem etc. all on the same diff? If so sounds related... Wrong tires? Too much stress? My Tire guy says I should keep my tires at a reasonable size or risk big problems... [toy truck, right] Might be cheeper to exchange tires to different ones??? Course what is reasonable, we own '4x's.

Rob and I were in Van yesterday and saw my tracker dream... The 3" suspencion lift:) and the 3" body lift [Calmini x2] on a larger version of my favorite tires with skid plates . oh excuse me.... It was down on Second Ave. in a body shop parking lot just before Cambie. Oh I just got sooo excited.... Maybe next year.....

The front diff blew up last week  I guess the rear thought it was time to go as well. The Front was because the center carrier bolt came loose and turned everything into mush. The rear is blown because the tube is out of round and is blowing up the axle bearings!

Do you know what the sad thing is? I have two daily driver 4x4's and and both always need somthing fixed.

But when you are on a great trail with the top off and the front window down, tunes are thump'n and you have a cold one in your hand you know why you own a 4x4
