View Full Version : what do you think about this wirring

This should have been put into the pillars but instead this is what I got. My sparky says this is to code and I can burry this box and the wires.

What do you think?

I'm ready to rip all this shit out and start again. The sparky is asking for $$ and I'm not sure what to tell him yet. I told him it needs to be redone and he sent me a text as if I'm going to let him do it.

It does look like shit
Is that sensor just lying there?
Why is there an empty pipe and wires are just in gravel?

11-19-2017, 03:37 PM
The sensor has to be mounted to the pillar somehow. At this point the wire would just lie on the ground. The empty pipe is to run a 2nd wire into the left pillar. The gate guys just put a wire into the concrete and that's why I had to cut the pad to put a PVC in.

The guy wants $700 for this work so far. I said it needs to be done again and he's talking like he's going to be the one doing it.

anywho just venting a bit here

Turf that sparky.

He's stretching out this job like a warm piece of toffee.
Installs to code......then asks for more money to make it look good.
Bad service. What's his companies name?

tell him if you wanted it to look like shit.. you would have do it yourself. if im paying someone to do something, i expect perfection.

11-20-2017, 01:39 PM
Does that look like it's to code? No idea but it sure is messy

Burge hit the nail on the head . Any one ofcould wire the gate but your paying for piece if mind. Does what you see there fill your mind with piece? ??

11-21-2017, 03:41 PM
get it inspected good or bad idea could lead to bigger problems with the district :dontknow:

It's time for a new sparky, this one has too much of a gap between braincells. His spark is forever extinguished.

Wiring looks ok to me. Now if the guy actually got out of his truck to do it then that's different.
But that's acceptable drive by wiring, and I challenge the armchair bandits on here to do better.

when the pillar guy showed up he got shocked from the exposed wires lol

when I told him that he said that the power was off when I left so he did think to cover the bare wires

Cables / conductors should not be encased in concrete without being inside conduit for starters. I also have a problem with the loomex being direct buried. Yes the jacket appears rated for direct burial, however the material that it is buried in has too much rock in it and would not likely pass. even if it was sandy under what I see in the picture I would have used PVC conduit sleeves for all unarmored conductors above ground as they are also close to a driveway, exposed to weed whacker and other mechanical damage etc. Just my two cents.....questionable and looks like shit.

12-13-2017, 05:07 PM
How deep is the conduit ? There is min depth under a drive way also those wires should all be hidden. Tisk tisk. Donít call an inspection unless you got permits. It could Bite you I would refuse to pay !! and tell him to show his red seal ticket and take a pic Of it ! Then I would be hinting that you will be taking him to court to sue. Because now your going to have to get a real
Sparky in to fix that hack job. And he starts a fight tell him to put his hand in that puddle when the power is on. See if the guy will Just saying.

You have to be one of the most unlucky people I know. It seems as though everything you get done is full of problems.
