Drove past it for years didn't know what it was 180031 memorial by a pilot named Charlie Perkins planted the ivy he brought back from England
As a memorial to the pilots he trained and lost their lives in the war
He also saved the tree from the hiway it's the reason the hiway has a curve there
It was. Named a historical monument at some point
The tree fell onto the hiway July 30 2016 and they are replacing it with a stone monument
Just thought it was a interesting story

Don't know about someone running into it
I remember it being vandalized set on fire

I saw that tree fall in front of me on the #1. In the summer. Fuckin trippy Are car even disappeared into the branches after skidding 80ft or so.
