How much could I pull with this truck like could I pull a 5th wheel ??

gavman
12-27-2015, 03:28 PM
A 10,000 pound 5th wheel would be lots for the truck, a travel trailer ( if that's what your pulling ) should be less than that.

Fordtrailer

Okay I have another question how do I find out what my gear ratio is ??

TOYLESS
12-28-2015, 12:10 PM
Pull your rearend out and look at the number on the ringear

Punk in Drublic
12-28-2015, 01:41 PM
you can estimate by spinning the driveshaft and counting how many revolutions to get one spin at the tires.

Burge
12-28-2015, 04:52 PM
run the vin and find out what it was built with

Fordtrailer
12-28-2015, 06:09 PM
Is there any easier way hahaha except pulling it apart

4skin
12-28-2015, 06:27 PM
Should be a tin tag on the diff cover held on with a cover bolt
If it's there it will have ratio on it

Fordtrailer
12-28-2015, 06:53 PM
Oh okay I'll check that thank you

Lieutenant Johnson
12-28-2015, 07:20 PM
and what Punk said...it gives you an idea

4skin
12-28-2015, 07:51 PM
The spinning tires thing lol
Mark driveshaft mark tires roll truck ahead while watching driveshaft rotation
Is only way to get fairly accurate idea
Really if your going to tow with it pop cover off inspect gears etc for wear
Find numbers stamped on gears or count teeth
Replace cover gasket or use favourite goo fill with lube
You just serviced diff and know for shure what gears are in it even tag isn't 100% shure thing

Fordtrailer

Alright thank you for everyone's help

Drivers side door, check the tag, should have the axle code, https://www.fordf150.net/howto/decode.php

Fordtrailer
12-31-2015, 10:12 AM
So I found out my gear ratio by decoding and I have 3.55 gear ratio is that good?

Burge
01-01-2016, 04:00 AM
not for towing heavy loads or big tires

Fordtrailer
01-01-2016, 12:43 PM
Why not for big tires shit I have 34.5 tires on 17 rims I was gonna put on

harvester_sorrow
01-01-2016, 11:05 PM
Hard on the engine. The leverage to turn the tires isn't as good

Fordtrailer
01-02-2016, 12:32 AM
So it would be a bad idea to put 34.5 tires and 17 rims on ?

harvester_sorrow
01-02-2016, 03:22 AM
Going to loose fuel economy and power. Won't be able to tow as much

Fordtrailer
01-02-2016, 11:23 AM
Oh I'm probably going to get a new truck and make my ford a four wheeler

Fordtrailer
01-05-2016, 02:34 PM
Put on 17 inch rims on 34.5 tires

Burge
01-05-2016, 03:46 PM
your speedo will also be a bit slow

Deathtrap
01-06-2016, 10:38 PM
Re-gear it, 4.56 is good for 35/37's, I've got the ZF trans in my bronco, ditched the shit auto.

Is it possible to do a Dana 70 rear and a Dana 60 front ?

Burge
01-07-2016, 03:42 AM
anything is possible. it all depends on your skill set and budget. A SAS on a ttb ford front with leafs isnt a big deal.

Fordtrailer
01-09-2016, 10:16 AM
Does anyone have a Dana 60 off a Ford f350?

Deathtrap
01-09-2016, 06:18 PM
Sterling 10.25 swap the rear, a lot easier on these trucks, spring perches, brake lines, park brake cables are all the same, its pretty much bolt in.

Fordtrailer
01-09-2016, 11:33 PM
Like do a Dana 60 front end and a sterling 10.25 rear ??

Burge
01-10-2016, 02:59 AM
Like do a Dana 60 front end and a sterling 10.25 rear ??

yup. the 10.25 is a stout full floating rear end

Oh okay thank you for your help

Set of super duty diffs way easier and cheaper to find
Only bummer is metric wheel mounting pattern

Ive hauled in excess of 12000 pounds with mine with zero issues still maintained decent fuel economy and had passing power but mines a 460 and 5 speed. So id think 10000 pounds would be the limit of yours regardless of gear ratios.

Fordtrailer
01-11-2016, 10:46 PM
What is your gear ratio tho ? I have a 3.55 ratio and a 351 Windsor engine and pulling my trailer and dune buggy sick fuel like crazy

Fordtrailer
01-11-2016, 10:49 PM
New photos of truck

01-11-2016, 11:54 PM
Im not sure. But hauling all that weight as I said took the front tank and quarter the rear tank and I did about 450kms. So about 80 liters for 450kms very loaded and Im pretty sure your truck will have a sterling 10.25 diff in the rear.

Fordtrailer
01-12-2016, 11:30 AM
Oh okay thank you for your help but I want to straight axel the front what would be the best ? And is it okay to have two different gear ratios ? Like 4:10 front and 3:55 rear ??

Burge
01-12-2016, 11:42 AM
No its not ok to run different ratios. things will bind and break with the front and rear tires turning at different speeds

Mud drag trucks run different ratios front and rear. but that is a whole another discussion.

Fordtrailer
01-12-2016, 12:06 PM
So if I do a Dana 60 4:10 then I have to put a Dana 60 4:10 in the back ?

4skin
01-12-2016, 12:11 PM
No doesn't have to be a Dana 60 4.10 could be a sterling 4.10 or a 14bolt
Heck it could be a Toyota lol not recommended for towing
Just need to be a 4.10 geared rear
You could put the 4.10 geared front in and drive it
But you couldn't use 4wheel drive until the rear was regeared to 410

Deathtrap
01-13-2016, 09:21 PM
For your truck you just need to find a D60 from a 87-97 F-350, then re-gear it to match the rear diff, your truck has leaf springs so it will match what's on the D60, you wouldn't need to many other parts to bolt it in, IE track bar, steering and brakes.

Fordtrailer

So I upgraded my truck some more got that headache rack flat blacked it same with my rear bumper and the rear wheel trim and put a hood fender thing on

Fordtrailer
01-24-2016, 09:15 AM
Should I put a 360 or 460 Ford motor swap in my truck ?

vajayjay
01-24-2016, 06:38 PM
