Its like casting a section for the gap between tracks . Grinding off the extra is gonna suck money balls . its a cool process just don't be the low man on the totem pole

That was pretty quick actually and the skill set needed for that
Is a lot less involved than training a welder so any of their guys can do it with minimal training
As for grinding it they probably have a rail grinding machine
That trues both rails at same time

Im sure your right that it is all automated , I used to manually weld rail frogs and track and you learn real fast that you do not want to grind off extra . manganese steels gets tougher the longer you grind/work it lol .

Thermite is very cool, you used to be able to find left overs on the tracks years ago (partially containers of it) but nowadays I don't think you would ever find any leftovers

i like the guy chipping near the end not wearing his safety glasses. i could only imaging how awesome that hot slag would feel on the eye. i had a piece of hot flux stick to my eye lid when i was welding fluxcore, was a shitty time! The safety squint didnt do shit that day.

If it was CP they'd be sent home. No hard hat, safety glasses, or high visibility
