So after some punks stole my lifted tent trailer ..the Mrs and I were on the hunt for a new , used one...scored a sweet deal on this Coleman in perfect shape, just sits really low compared to my old one :roll eyes and the tires are so dinky [15]

Thinking about to a spring over with a new 3500lb axle. I watched this video below and the guy really knows his stuff...Has anyone done this ..seems like it could be done in a night or two:dontknow:

Yup if its not a straight axle need to find the blance spot like in the vid..not.gonna flip the axle gonna re weld perches on top

i dont like how he didnt add more material above the rear slipper pad. if it wears through it will sag heavy to the one side. a small piece of 3/8 flat bar above the pad would prevent that. i also think he just likes to hear himself talk.

looks like i will have to extend mounts a bit to add some lift too

Easy. To do. Perches. On top. If not enough height. Get. New. Leaf springs. With more. Arch.To them im. assuming. You don't. Have a torflex axle.

Nope dont have a torkflex axle...just a straight. Axle..gonna buy a new 3500lb axle with welded perches on top and 5lug pattern for 170$... Was gonna extend shackles for more lift if needed? What do you think..i am not a leaf spring guy...or would new springs be better?
Shes riding lowwwwwoh yeah

So trying to figure out whether to add some lift to the peaches on the axle OR buck off existing shackle mounts and make new extended ones..plan on 2-3" either way WITH the SOA whats the better way and why?

I'd get new. Arched. Springs. Longer shackle mounts. Can flex. Side.to side. Depending on how long they are. I've seen a few. Trailers. Tear off. Lief. Spring.mounts. from. Off road use. Mind u. They weren't. Tent trailers

Gonna box them or gusset/brace the extended mounts..the frame is completely rust free and thick square tube....as for the springs may do that in the future. For now just wanna get it up and bigger tires on it and camp!

why you need a new axle? the frame of that thing will never handle 3500 pounds of load

Its more piece of mind for me...owner hadn't greased in 4 years and previous who knows...rather get a beefier NEW axle with bearing buddies, welded soa perches and be done...especially on fsrs bouncing and maybe smashing a rock...the axle in now will bend..plus i want 5lug

Bearing buddies suck because they always get stolen, my boat trailer had them came back from boating and they were gone. Had a spare set, threw them on next trip out gone again [16]

Have regulars on ever since :hitler:

Most bearing buddies. Only pack grease. Between. The outter edges of the bearings. Not INSIDE. The bearings. Itself. No bearing buddies. And repack them. Yearly. Usually. Springtime before. First. Road. Trip

I've had rollers stolen off my boat trailer. Come back and have to switch rollers around so the boat will kinda sit on trailer properly.

fyi I rocked a 3500 5 lug axle under my 1970's tent trailer with 33'' tires and jeep CJ leafs and I used to take it down to hale and area 51 and stupid places and I ended up bending the axle tube after a year of campin and wheelin hard on it

Done like dinner...finally after battling with tire and rim size and having to make custom Spring pads as my leafs were wider than normal.. I sucked it up and bought some Pro Comp 15x7s with 3.75 bs and they fit perfectly on some 215/75/15 Coop A/Ts....thanks again Nebowe for all your help..i need to flip hitch mount as this trailer sits higher http://www.bcjeepclub.ca/Smileys/default/smiley.gif
