View Full Version : Rust repair

This jeep was so badly abused and neglected before I got it makes feel like I'm playing catch up with all the repairs and such lol. The new project after the motor re and re was to fill in the rust as best I can so below is a before during and after process of sealing the rear quarters.

After cutting as much of the rust out of the Pass rear outer quarter panels this is what was left from the inside looking out.

This is a rough cut in

This is how it sits now, inside looking out

Outside looking up

Also re sealed the inner/outer fender seams while I was at it

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz62/Knoakes/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120153.jpg (http://s814.photobucket.com/user/Knoakes/media/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120153.jpg.html)

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz62/Knoakes/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120136.jpg (http://s814.photobucket.com/user/Knoakes/media/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120136.jpg.html)

Now we move over to the drivers rear quarter from the inside out, this represented a challenge because of the gas filler tube and took some creative trimming to seal up

Outside looking up,"rough in"

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz62/Knoakes/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120116.jpg (http://s814.photobucket.com/user/Knoakes/media/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120116.jpg.html)

Inside looking out, still more work to do here

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz62/Knoakes/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120047.jpg (http://s814.photobucket.com/user/Knoakes/media/more%20rust/IMG_20150410_120047.jpg.html)

Still lots more to go on the rear quarters, once more pop rivets are installed and the urethane sealer dries all of this will receive a healthy coat of rubber undercoating including the inside of the fenders to cut down some road noise. Its not very pretty to look at but once its all back filled with the undercoating and the outer quarters re closed it won't be visible at all. I also don't have alot to work with which explains all the rivets and sealer but it's a start and a definite improvement over it's previous look. More pics to follow..........

As far as cut n weld goes the drivers side would present the problem with the gas filler tube. I cut most of the rust out that was hiding behind the stock flares not realizing the rear quarters were wide open lol. I used some bendable sheet metal and the sealant was industrial eurathane. Should see under the rear seat and front quarters, bought a Flux core 110v welder to handle the rest of the work needed lol
