I like ours, you must see it drive by all the time ;)

I bought it with 42K on it, now we are at 160K.

Did the brakes once at 110K myself.

Last week I had it in for service.

All driveline fluids
Timing belt, tension, and did waterpump also while they were in there
Front brakes all new again, this time all genuine toyota
Airfilter, cabin filter etc.
New drive belts

Came to $3500 incl tax, but for the rest I've done oil changes myself. That's about it.
It's the V8 sport. Fuel mileage is about 15L/100KM, sometimes a bit better. Keep in mind that the V8 always runs in awd.
It has a center torsen diff, engage it and it is true 4WD.

I'd definitely go for the V8 again. Way more torque.

If you want to have a look at it, come on by. I just live up the street from you.

BTW, you want to get the 05 and newer especially if you get the V8.

They have the nice fenders, bumper and taillights imo.

They updated V8 also has the VVT-i, more horsepower.

toyota120.com has tons of technical info on those vehicles.

I'd also have a look at the GX470. Same frame & drive train, taller inside and 3rd row seats. The older ones are not that much more then the 4Runners.
They all have V8s, again I'd look for the VVTi version.

I will check that out. The fuel mileage is a big turn off for me. My 97 with over 500,000km gets better mileage then the 4.0l v6 gets. I was hoping for better mileage with a newer vehicle.... not worse lol

I've had 2 91s an 97, an 02, and we still have the 06.

The 4th gen is hands down the nicest, although I miss the '97 with the manual transmission. I shouldn't have sold that one in hind sight.
Just compare the fuel mileage to a 80 series landcruiser and it seems really good ;). It's all relative.
