View Full Version : Great bear hunting weekend

So a friend of mine came up for the long weekend. His first hunt. He was shooting his new Browning X-bolt 300WM. I was lugging my Ruger Alaskan in 375Ruger. He had a friend help him sight it in but my lead sled would prove otherwise.

So we headed out in the mountains. To find Travis a first bear and me to hopefully get a second one this season.

On Saturday evening after I got off work. We came across this one. Travis went down the bank after Him. I hiked the road side to see what I could. About 50yds up from my fiend I spot him at 15yds below me. He was looking back at my friend and didn't know I was there. He spooked and ran up the bank towards me. I put him down at 5yds on the run. Went about 10yrs down the hill. Took me about 5 min to calm the hands to clip my tag.

Measured 5'4"

BTW my 375Ruger with a 300g bullet caused less blood shot then my 30-06.
was a Quartering towards shot double lung.

Sunday we headed out again. Seen more bears and one monster Grizzly that caught us a little off-guard. Had a nice lunch in the mountains

We seen another big bore Sunday evening. Travis fumbled with his mag and the bear was gone.

So I said we will go Monday morning early. I seen this Cinnamon bear on the run on a hill side. just beautiful coat shining in the sun. It made the mistake of stopping at the tree line about 110yds completely brodside. Travis was quick and calm this time. putting a 180g pill threw both lungs and tipping the heart.

Bear was not huge but great First bear and I skinned it out for a Rug for him. Measured 5ft
