I have this old rusty 4x4. Yesterday I put battery in it yesterday to put it in garage to start taking cab off. Hooked up gravity feed fuel tank. Alternator since taken off last year. Started great. Turned it around. Stopped, to put summer tires in pu box. Then it would not fire up... then saw smoke coming out of hood, opened hood, flames under carb!!!, threw snow on it no help, pulled off air cleaner, smothered with blanket no help, put hood back down, hopped on quad to get fire extinguisher, came back put out fire. Smoke coming out of grill by windshield, opened pass door, fire under dash, hopped back on quad, came back with 2nd fire extinguisher, came back put out fire. Shoveled snow onto dash, and around carb. Looked outside today and it did not catch fire again overnight. Stupid me, I should have taped up alternator wires. I'm thinking spark lit up fuel leaking somewhere. So today going to start pulling off cab and front clip. Looks like plug wires and cap are toasted really good. vacuum lines all gone. Battery still good. I'll replace what I need to start it, pos wire to cap. Jumper to starter etc. Carb did not melt it looks like so far.... I'm sure engine is still fine. Lots of plastic melted, top rad hose burnt but not leaking, wiper motor a wee melted... I'll post pics later today lol...

So took some pics, carb throttle wont move so I think accelerator pump melted inside, something jamming it up. Engine looks ok except for distributor lol. Front rad support is in good condition if someone needs one. Grill has a few cracks but still good. Hopefully have time next week to put one some plug wires, cap, good carb, vacuum hoses, etc to fire it up.

Holy shit that sucks...at least it didn't all go up in flames. That carb is probably junk, they aren't made of the most heat resistant stuff

Well cab and box were getting scraped anyways. Engine looks fine now that its all cleaned up. Valve covers did not even get hot enough to melt rubber gaskets since I could see the edge of one from under valve cover. Nothing got intake since throttle was closed. Yah luckily it burned in the middle of a wide driveway rather close to or in shop.
