Are the gas cans staying in the Jeep ?

yes that's right. they are being bolted down to the steel lid on the box. As well as the cooler. this way the gas cans are not putting on an excessive amount of weight on the tailgate. Until l build a tire rack that can support 500 lbs that will have to do.

The worse is power equipment in the jeeps. chainsaws etc.. for fumes. What i like about those old cans is they don't leak. no fumes. What i don't like is they rust + don't pour well. i am going to get some rust treatment at a auto parts store in bellingham, find my caps and they will be good to go. I have even backed into a tree with one and it did not leak.

leaks and vapors are two differnrt things. It may not leak but a few drops here and there from filling and emptying them is what will get you

It was free so the price was right. Its up you on how much money you want to spend. At Costco right now in the states they have really nice cooler for a couple of hundred bucks that will hold ice for a very long time and take a lot of abuse. The military cooler is very well built however the internal space is quite small for its size.
