Anyone know of a single cylinder tach tool I can buy from Lordco or Napa or Canadian Tire, etc., that can be hooked up to a ignition coil. I have a 1970 kohler 12 hp engine and output shaft goes right into tranny so a tool that you touch to crankshaft wont work. I have tachs for 4-8 cyl engines but not a small engine tach for 1-4 cylinder engines. KD Tools has one you touch to crank and there are wireless rpm tools too on ebay.... A brand and part # |I can give to counter people in town would be great!! Neighbor had a sled with tach for single cylinder but he wants to sell whole skidoo lol

autometer makes a goofy tach that you can adjust and it has a clamp on pick up they are usally used on a alt of a diesel engine

Not sure how accurate an inductive pickup style would be on a small engine. Automotive 4 strokes spark once every 2 revolutions and most small engine stuff sparks every revolution, 2 and 4 stroke. Guess you'll know once you try it. If the tach reads 8000 rpm at WOT then just half the reading.

Always wanted to try mine on my sled or quad, gotta remember to try it this week
