Can you butcher and wrap you meat up at base camp while still hunting? If so do you need to still leave sex organs attached to something for inspection? Thanks [cheers]

I have never don't it. but friends that hike for elk have. they de-boned on the mountain and hiked it out. just need a way to ID it. kind of like a feathered wing on a grouse.
BTW cutting and wraping in the bush sounds like a big pain in the ass.

Start researching how to care for your meat. All sorts of different ways but one recurring theme is to "age" or hang the kill for a while before butchering. You'll find this happens with the beef/chicken you buy in the store as well.
(btw, leave your grouse in the cooler/camper frig three days before eating. You'll find it much better)

Thanks guys the conservation officer didn't know what to tell us he just said gender needs to stay attached to the carcass till you get home, get it to the butcher or cold storage. When I said we are the butcher so its already made it to the butcher, he didn't know what to say. We always hang our meat for at least 5 days and let grouse sit a while. We had out of towners in our shared hunt that's why we were going to butcher it there so we could divide the meat. Cheers.
