I took a 99 Durango on a trade.
The guy told me it had a 360 or something in it , I didnt even open the hood.
Now Im trying to sell it and everyone asks what engine?
No tags anywhere .
How do i ID it?
It says V8 Magnum and thats it.

likely vin number, maybe a tag on firewall or underside of hood, or if it is the stock motor, a quick google should get ya the answer.

Its either a 5.2 or a 5.9.
The 5.9 is a 360

5.2=318
5.9=360
The 360's usually came in the R/T dakotas and some R/T durango's

Edit:looks like that's already been discussed :p lol

1998–2003 — 5.9 L (360 cu in) Magnum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_LA_engine#Magnum_5.9) V8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_engine), 245 hp (183 kW) & 330 lbft (449 Nm) of torque
1999–2000 — 5.9 L (360 cu in) Supercharged Magnum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_LA_engine#Magnum_5.9) V8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_engine), 360 hp (270 kW) & 412 lbft (559 Nm) of torque (although it sure as hell aint supercharged)

otherwise it's a 3.9L V6, but then it would say MagnumV6 on the side

So it could be a 5.9?

vin will only confirm whats on the emissions id, its a 5.2 or 318 unless its been swapped. But Unless its clean I wouldnt imagine its been swapped. I would also guess that the 5.9 from factory as was a very limited r/t package would have r/t on the air intake. But again if its swapped in 5.9 who knows.

I know on the older ones there is a 318 or 360 cast into the block, look by the frost plugs on either side on my older 318 its above starter on drivers side. If it doesnt say 318 or 360 (or 5.2 and 5.9) will for sure have some numbers cast into it, google the numbers and will tell u, i know the older ones even had a clock saying what time the block was cast as well as what size and day it was cast.

you cant tell by looking at them, there the same block

If you can see the gas gauge move while driving, it's a 5.9 like ours.[11] A true workhorse for us tho!
They came in 3 engine sizes. 4.7 ,5.2 ,5.9
