Ok well here goes

The new build plan.

Family Wheeler / Exploration rig

light to med wheeling with road trip and sleeping abilitys
amd the usual kick ass sound

Bought a 95 Chevy 2 Door tahoe for 1200 bucks

dont like the color or the fact its linda like a car but all that will change soon...like really soon

the truck has a solid body and frame a good transmission but thats it

motor is tired
ifs 4wd not working
and it has car tires

the plan is this

already ordered a new motor 350 5.7

already secured a rear end with locker and disks

looking for a drivers drop solid front axle d 60 or 44 not to picky

the plan is to have her sased and double locked asap and am looking to run 35-38'' tires prolly mtr/bf/toyo...maybe even ltbs

if anyone has parts or experence in this kinda build please share your thoughts

before i bought my jeep all i could do was oil changes but i have leared alot since then especially listining rather than taking the cheap way out
so please share your advice

You want a ford diff preferably a king pin60 although you would be ok with a 44
For the three times out a year lol
Or run a black box to a 205 so you can run a Chevy front diff in it
Or leave the ifs in it so you get that car like ride you want
Lots of different options
And if its going to be a daily driver I'd stick with a 35 in tire
Especially on a 44

Happypants

If u go with the black box option and the Chevy side diff I got a leaf sprung hd 44 here with Reid knuckles n high steer, all that shit, I'll give ya a good deal on, it's a 8 bolt 44

unless you plan on seriously wheeling that suv, just keep the indepentent and put 6inch suspension lift with a 2inch body ,will fit 35s no prob and be reliable, know a few guys with lifted indy fronts and they never have problems you just dont get the flex you would outta a solid front

with 35s and chromos and et etc the d44 might last a while.
I still have one here that I need to inspect what died.
detroit survived 6 shaft breakages, then I put Yukon shafts in.
warn hub breakage busted something in the detroit.

in the long run it is always cheaper to start with a d60f IMO,
unless you are a great salesmen and are able to rip someone off buying your old stuff.
oh wait,
hey I have a ford d44 bronco housing, with flat top f250 outers, for sale, slightly used, Yukon shafts, 3.73s are perfect for 35s, detroit locked for only $1500 :)
also have tons of new parts for same on the bench, spindles/bearings/brake brackets/u joints/seals/warn premiums

a slight build on a dana 44 for that would be enough its only half ton truck not 3/4 or 1 ton and unless u plan on doing trails like fucked lower or upper then it will br plenty plus the width is nice for that unit and u can still run 16 or 15" rims with a 35" without issues and then u also keep 6 bolt and that rear end in truck is half ton already so less money plently of stregth for family rig u can also look into Sky desighns for a sas kit but imo a 44 in front o that would be just fine the front ifs diff in that is pretty much as strong as a dana 30 lol an it handles 35" tires lol with an ifs lift dont need to over build something that your not rocking hardcore trails with just reliable and strong and if u want a 60 up front u mayaswell go 14b in rear lock em both no need to build them for that rig and then work on some nice tube flares for width and sliders n bumpers to accom but being a family rig muiltimount winch with hitch front n rear is great so u dont got to build bumpers slap some leds on front for lights and some sliders with imo 2" hitch holes for multimount for side pulls if needed and a locker in rear that thing with go everywhere and cheap reliable and fun i think what i siad about would e plenty your jeep was overbuilt for the use it seen sure was pretty but a budget family built moderate wheeler u dont need more then what isaid above and as for body damage well those round bodys get poked with a stick and they ding so bash in the trees and a roof rackfor storage is nice too cheers!

Before yapping a Dana 60 and 44 are the same width
As for the strength 35 s on a 44 it's on the edge of boom
And my ford needed ball joints replaced yearly on a skinny 36
Not to mention randomly blowing out axles
short box pu not a overgrown station wagon

did you get a deal on H2 rear or already have one? semi float junk with no aftermarket support.
a late 90s e250 is a disc brake equiped d60 with large spindle that can fit 35spline axles.

the best deal going right now is 2005+ ford axles front and rear. they use the largest steering ujoint 1550 and right now no one seems to know about them. only thing is the ugly cast in mounts.
keep your eyes peeled for a set of those and you would be state of the art

H2 rear is just adding $$ to a hundred buck pu rear diff

Built for guys that need to compensate for a small dick

this is what makes 05+ axles cheap right now.

once these people learn how huge Ford had the 05+ stuff built they will be the most sought after.
unit bearings are fawking massive, nothing like the 99-04 that have bad rap.
pretty much clean sheet design to eliminate any warrantee issues with 820ft/lb diesels.
also the ring gear is larger the regular d60s, 10" iirc

I was wondering if it was Tom's H2 axle?

I had a 300 six and it wasn't a bashing through the bush truck
It got wheeled
Buddy had video of it gernading a shaft just off idle in low shrapnel just missed his head
So what motor was in this truck that made 600 horse and 500 ft lbs
Was this a dyno no or dream wheel
My chevelle has a little more than that and would be useless in a 4x4
It would break everything behind the motor it does in the chevelle

d44 shafts flex a lot
usually the breakage is from them spitting out the stock retaining clips and allowing the ujoint cap to slip out
upgrade to Yukon alloy shafts to get the full circle snaprings, it will reduce your breakage a huge amount

im shopping for all the parts right now and tryn to come up with a plan/order of things

been working on the motor and interior the last 2 weeks

removed the ac unit and temp replaced with bypass pully and a new tensioner

wont put anything else into this motor as i have a new one to put in...only problem is this one runs really nice

had to replace the heater box resistor after about 3 hours of learning my volt meter and picking up 2 parts i didnt need...grrrrr..still dont have the blower hi setting but at least the heat is working now

the last couple night i have been fixing the power window regulator ( fuck you fuck you fuck you ) i hate inner doors ...turns out the rivet the motor to the track due to clearence issues OH OH OH and theres a fucken spring in there under crazy tension ( found this out wheni drilled the last rivet and the spring blew and almost cut 3 of my fingers off)

the pics below are the preventative measures i took when i re installed the motor and spring...wasnt going to be anywhere neer that nasty fucker when i hooked power up lol
