the father in law is thinking about getting a 98-2000ish ford explorer

need to know all the reasons not to buy one so i can talk him into a 4 runner.

the sohc 4.0l dont normally have ticking problems they started sohc 4.0l in explorers in 95 so your good there but the trannys are poop, i think it would be cool to build a 5.0l explorer[36]

Every vechicle has its flawes at least it's not a compleat pos like a Toyota lol , just get an explorer with a 5 speed and manual hubs and ur set

yup, tranny slips in my ranger, got rid of the auto 4x, well still have button 4x4, and the engine ticks like a mother fucker with only 170kms and burns some oil...oh head lights usually fog and have shitty lighting as well

100% unibody. My bro used to work at an auto body shop. Saw one come in with a bent bumper, guy wasn't paying attention and backed into a concrete divider, not even that bad, just looked bent upward a bit, in anything else could have just replaced the bumper but the whole body twisted. Truck got written off, and the guy bought his 99 in 2001 for like $18,000 and got $9500 back.


oh, and its a ford. unless it's a classic don't even bother. They make them cheaper than a kia or hyundai now.

some explorers of that era had 5.0Ls in em factory, and the sohc 4.0Ls had their own issues like shitty timing chains and guides

i could be wrong but im pretty sure second gen(95-01) explorers had a full length frame

could be wrong, maybe i misheard something. But i do know for sure that the thing was written off. Most things with a full frame wouldn't twist that easy, and if they did, that gives you an idea of how cheaply it's made
