hey guys,

I have recently bought a 74 highboy and looking to build it up. It currently has a dana 44 in the front with ram assist steering. I am looking to put roughly 37's on it and wondering what is my best option for upgrading the steering ???

A steering box from a 78 79 f 250
But it's not a bolt in swap cutting and welding required

is it a long and tough swap? i will be getting it done at either a shop or hopefully paying cash for some one to do it if i can find someone. sadly just don't have time.

Biggest problem is finding the parts
Really isn't anything wrong with the ram set up if it works
Wheeled my 72 with that set up for years till I bent the frame
And swaped a 78 frame

yah, I was just looking for a little bit smoother steering.. as much as i like the old arm strong its a pain in the ass somtimes and with bigger tires it would only get worst right

If the truck gets wheel , make sure the spacers get install inside the frame rail . Just help friend do the swap not that hard . He had found a good write up , on the net . Have lots of the boxes if no luck up there .

We did the work , so just the cost of steel . He also did a d60 and cross steer at the same time , hard to put cost . things to look at would be steering shaft work , pitman arm , steering linkage and possible box rebuild . Putting use parts in only find out junk , what kind of down time can the truck have ? Smart to get all parts needed first ,could be done in a few days .
