Hey guys I got a question went to go start my pathfinder (3.0L automatic 1993) just now to go to the store... It turns over but won't start. Lots of power in the yellow Optima to crank it, starter seems to be working as it is turning over.

Gonna take another vehicle to store tonight but am looking for some ideas while I'm out so I can fuck around with it tomorrow. Gonna check distributor and plugs etc...

Gonna read my Nissan book tonight too.

Just looking for possible things it could be so I got something to go on tomorrow. :confused0006:

Cheers [cheers]

There's a main manifold ground on the top of the intake, make sure it's plugged in otherwise, you will have said problem.

Bang the fuel tank with a large hammer/mallet. Try again.

Check the fuel pump, check the coil, rotor, distributor cap, maybe something as lame as the MAF. My pathy used to do such weird things during change of weather or seasons. Turned out it just needed a couple what the f***s from my foot and she fixed herself

Pull distributor cap
Crank engine
Does the rotor turn?

Check to make sure your fuel pump is working, then check for fuel at the rail, check spark, if you have fuel and spark check if u don't to either u got a bad/rotted ground or your fuel pump finally shit the bed

It's currently running right now actually after the suggestion of smacking fuel tank with a mallet.. well alot, show that truck not to run lol...

Could of just been dumb luck though. I imagine the rotor in the distributor must be turning though since its running now... so if the mallet trick worked what is it..? fuel pump? just shitty sediment clogging stuff up?

Gonna go check for the ground yoda604 was talking about as well ... I also have a spare MAF if it turns out to be that but its not looking like it cause its idling fine now that its going...

A buddy of mine works for Nissan (Morrey) and he says that this is pretty common.

You already tested the fuel pump
It wasn't working you beat the tank it works
fuel pump is on its way out
Life of a pump has lots of variables
Biggest being running below 1/4 tank all the time
Fuel filter not being changed ever
Put a pump in it or its Going to strand you

Makes sense no gas above 1/4 most of the time cuz im a cheap asshole killed my pump. Filters changed often however. It has had power issues for awhile too guess that was early warning, which i ignored lol

Oh well thanks guys gonna get to pricing a pump and fixin er up

Edit - holy fuck lordco wants almost 600 bucks for a fuel pump... 311 with a decent account.... Jesus. Are there rebuild kits for these things

Lol west-can is $143 but its in bramptton so have to pay dhipping still cheaper. Obv not a popular pump

Just reviving this a little with a related question...

So now that i know its fuel pump i pulled carpet in the rear to get to the access hatch... Got to pump pulled the first fuel line off.... And no fuel came out at all. Not sure if thats normal and i cant find my damn haynes book (which sucks anyway cuz it says drop tank when theres an access hatch)

So if its normal to be dry in there good if its not maybe its not fuel pump and its clogged line..? Dunno hoping i can get enlightened on this one...

The line in question has a pencil shoved up it in this pic:

Moving forward i got the pump assembly 100% ready to be pulled out (i think)... And i just cant get the fuckin thing out of the hole. Tried twisting it lots of ways... Thinking maybe theres a lock or some trick but its hard to tell anyone done it before? Maybe im just twisting the wrong way gonna keep messing with it...

Pump ready to be pulled i think... (screws are in cuz i couldnt get it out and wanted to close it up to keep debris out..)

Hopefully i can find a diagram for pump online and answer my own questions but any help is appreciated [cheers]

Pull straight up and tilt to the side.
The mechanics for the level sensor get hung up. It's Kind of difficult

Your getting fucked on the pump, shouldn't be that much. I think I paid 150 for mine. But yours is mpfi vs tbi

The dry line is probably just the return line from the fuel rail. Don't use silicone to seal the new one in, gas will eat it. Buy a proper gasket. [cheers]

Yeah i just grabbed a pickapart pump hopefully its a good one was real cheap tho and 90 day return if defective. Once i knew the trick on how to tilt it grabbing the one at pickapart was a breeze

30 bucks fuel pump pickapart, new gasket and screws 6 bucks. Cheapest fuel pump new is 200 w/ shipping and u have to take apart ur old one cuz its not the fctory replacement it needs an adapter. 380 for the right OE pump.

So ya its worth it, just probly gonna sell the truck anyway.
