View Full Version : 86 Sami Build

Half Slant
10-05-2012, 12:13 AM
here's my 86 stretched Sami 1.3L Carbed, YJ leaf conversion, and custom rear toy driveshaft. At this point, the short term goal is to get the motor running, as it was basically disconnected, transmission and transfer case were taken out as well as some other odds and ends. This build is MY build, with help when needed. I don't want someone else building MY rig, I want to know everything I can about it.:party0010:

I wish it were done. I'm working two more weeks of evenings so working on it is limited for the next couple weeks...

It was a friend of mine's who has a bunch of projects on the go. This was one of the original Sami's up eagle in the early 90s, and now needs some lovin to get her back in bitchin condition. Eventually she will have a v8 pushin her around.

The pitch on your double cardon for the rear drive shaft seems kind steep. And, for the vacuum lines, just change the carb, bypass the computer and take out almost all of the vacuum lines. Sweet little ride though. [cheers]

Thank you, I know she doesn't look all that good right now, but she'll get there. I put the shafts in to see for myself what the angles, and what kind of issues I was taking on. I'm planning on taking the angle finder to it, then more than likely lowering a bit to hopefully fix the issue. I'll probably end up getting a new front driveshaft somewhere along the way, maybe a double cardan joint as well?:confused0006:

Oh, she looks good, I see the potential. Small wheel base like that. Pretty much and atv, with a heater and a stereo. Your front driveshaft looked fine. Make sure you keep this updated, be awesome to watch it come together.

How much caster do you have? and with the shackle reverse upfront how will your driveline angles be at full droop?

i think the shackles will be shortened, gonna try make it a bit lower. i think she should run a 35 for now, then upgrade axles and 38's. well see what she ends up with.

38's would be sweet, even 35's are a big tire for a Sami, lookin good thou

HA, I'm really not into the whole FORD thing, especially a 5.0L after my last two episodes with 5.0Ls. I'm still doing my research, and making my decisions slowly. After further research, putting a v8 of any sort would just make it nose dive in a bog. I'm leaning towards 4.3L vortec, or a simple 1.6L swap and gears gears gears. Either way, gears.

There is no body lift..:WTF

I got a set of 35x12.5s.. If I go bigger motor, we'll go bigger axles and tires[36]

stick with something small. 31's 33's lock both ends. 1.6 and some t-case gearing.

enjoy...

ok if u have 35's then u need toy diffs if your gonna run them then just run all toy gear 22r/re 5 speed and a single case and go beat on it ...

cheap and light w a high fun factor [cheers]

Got all the way to the point of putting water in... Turns out the intake a slightly different and even though the outer edge of the gasket fit and lined up, i failed to look at the ports n such... I'm not going to say much more than FML i dont want to pull the thing off AGAIN for a 3/4th time!!!

BUT..

Here's Geordie's look on his face when I told him my tires were the same size as his..

Intake, Carb, Starter have all be re-installed.. Intake isn't leaking water this time ! (SUCCESS ON ATTEMPT #3) Carb, well, I hope it works.

All the wires to the 3 gold plated fuses are hooked up, yet i still don't quite understand what the eff is going on with that.

Tried to turn the bad boy over on Wednesday, no dice. No power at the ignition, and distributor, but have a hokey pokey relay set up that go to a mash of duct taped wires that might be hooked up wrong. There's also a possibility the ECM is cooked.. Where the hell is the ECM even located on this thing...

I'll try and snap some pictures of my redneck wire nightmare.... By chance, can anyone translate what "relay clickey switch thing" would mean if its "needed" to start...? lol :dontknow: :rules [16]
