What's the real difference between lugnuts for alum wheels compared to steel ones? Reason I'm asking is cause I got some blingin aluminum rims from Bruce and I wanna get rid of the ugly ass stock steel explorer rims

???

most aluminum rims have a steel insert and can use a bevelled nut, some aluminum rims require a straight nut and a washer (usually older or multi fit)
or you may need "tuner" nuts if it is a smaller deep hole.[cheers]

what your talking about is the difference between
Lug centric, and hub centric.
Flat typle lugs as you stated are used on hub centric wheels.

you guys.....

You will need either "ball seat" or "cone seat". Most but not all aftermarket aluminum rims will be cone seat. Almost all steel wheels are ball seat.

Jerm, he's not talking about hub centric. He's talking about the ols school straight through nuts, that had washers on them, but these are getting pretty rare.

you got the old school ones brah. You will need the push through style with the "correct" washer. Be prepared to spend some $$. Not sure where you will find these, take a wheel with you when you go shopping. Test fit the nut and washer before spending your money.

I haven't read all the posts in here, so if all the questions have been answered, just ignore me. What you need are 1/2x20 standard shank mag nuts and washers. Not many shops stock this stuff anymore. They can be ordered no problem. You're looking at $1.50 per unit. That's a nut and washer. So, like $30 plus tax would get you a whole set.

BTW, this is what I do for a living.
