Well I wish i would have taken some more pics but i never even thought about it till know. So i Have been working on a 99 blazer build up. It use to be my daily drive up until about a month ago when i lost the 3 and 4th clutch pack.
So i picked up a rebuilt tranny and struggled with the last 2 bell housing bolts for hours. To those of you that have done a tranny swap in a s10 or blazer you know what i am talking about. The two bolts are located right at the top of the tranny against the firewall. It took me hours to figure out how to access them. Once i figured it out they came out in seconds. What i had to do was remove rear cross menber drop tranny as far as it goes use a 3 foot extension and a woble socket. so tranny is in now i am going to start on the suspesion i will keep this thread updated if any one has some advice for the suspension any input would be nice i will post some pics soon[cheers]

the service manual starts out with undoing body mounts yes you have to lift the body

I dd it with out lifting the body , but that was a thought. once i dropped the tranny on a angle they where easy to access

just curious whats so custom fab about this???

hmm when I swapped my motor I just undid them from the top(under the hood)... :D

only reason i love my body lift, so much more room to work on things...

and if your wanting advice on suspension, I would sugest cutting it out and putting a straight axle under it, fronts on these trucks are weak.

They make bolt in sas kits for s-series trucks if you don't have a good welder or fab skills...

doing a spring over in the rear gives you about 5"

rat trap

I am going to hold off on the spring over. Maybe when 35 are to small for me i will go with a spring over and sasto fit some 40's [cheers]

not to be a dink but c chanel for shackles pretty ghetto fab
the angle of the webs wont suport the bushings properly
and probably chew the bushings up too
and by the time you drill a hole for your spring bolt not much meat left around the hole but good atempt

FU Toolbag
05-31-2012, 08:18 PM
Please do not use c channel for a shackle stretch. Just screams pull this thing off the road and condemn it cause if this is how I fix stuff so if you look and harder you will definitely find huge problems worthy of being pulled off the road.

Judging by some of the remarks it seems as though people would rather put a kid down rather than help him out, to me that is why kids try to do things without asking, because they are affraid people say s%&t like "thats not custom" or " thats ghetto fabricated" well guess what, it is custom.... Can you buy a lifted blazer from chevy NO, therefore its a custom build. As far as ghetto fab work, i could only imagine what comments he would have got if he asked for peoples opinion.

Keep up the good work rat trap, dont let a couple "tools" discourage you.

Some of you should read the tiltle, it says custom fabricated or ANYTHING COOL?

if you make a long shackle make sure sure to put a brace in the middle of the shackle to make it stronger or imo do the spring over it will be better on the angles and drive better or try a shackle flip

with extended shackles whatever you gain in lift you lose in aproach angle
and departure angle
a 4in over shackle will give you between 1 to 2 in lift depending on spring and eye to center pin length
so you actualy dont realy gain much
and wait till you flip a shackle backwards usualy buggers the spring up

06-03-2012, 05:11 PM
I know blazer's are not easy to lift but i will find a way even if i have to completely gut it. Where there is a will there is a way :dontknow:

if your going to be using a ifs kit on that and want to fit 35`s your going to have to do alot of cutting on the fenders to get them to fit, best thing for you to do is a axle swap on the front, trailmaster ifs lift kits are crap as well, same with rough country, find yourself a d44 and a 8.8 and do a spring over in the rear and either coils or leafs up front, and you will easly get your 35`s to fit, blazers are a bit of a cunt to do a sas on cause the frame has a bend on one side where as the other side is straight so one of the shackle hangers has to be mounted on the inside, google blazer axle swap, theres lots of info on there, and it would be cheaper to do the sas then it would be to do a ifs lift, not to mention how much balljoints,cv shafts, and wheelbearings your going to go through, ask me how i know, i had 33s on mine and i was going through them constantly,

I got 32"s no rub with 3" bl and 1" tb, sawzall and sledge.... 33"s you will need a lot of lift and 35"s your only rear option is to sas it...

I'm sasing mine and putting 33"s under it... for now...

If you want to go sas just do it dont mess around making a small lift or cutting fenders to fit bigger tires as you nd up trashing it anyways when u do the sas.

the actual measurement of the tires with the low tread were only a hair over 31, so you can see 33"s will need a lot more lift... IMO 31"s are about the biggest you want to go on IFS, other then that buy a bolt in sas kit if you can't fab one yourself...
