I've been thinking about welding up one of the diffs on my v6 runner. I'ts not my DD, but I'll be driving it for to and from the bush.

Originally I was thinking of welding the rear and that I'd just put up with the wheel hop, but it occured to me that the front might be a better choice.

With front manual hubs I'm thinking I can avoid turning radius and wheel hop problems on pavement. The only downside I can see is being a front indy, I won't always have the articulation to keep both wheels on the ground.

Eventually it'll get SAS'd and what not, but that's as shit breaks...

thoughts?

Weld the rear, I used to daily drive to school and work with a welded rear and you get used to it. Did it for 2 years. For just driving two and from the trail I would not worry about wheel hop, chirping, tire wear, etc.

What's the Beni' front vs rear? I bought the truck lifted and done with butterfly shacked in the rear, so she'll drop down nice, but I always figured pull vs push for getting over stuff.

front is typically weaker than the rear, is it ifs in the front or SFA? if your ifs, carry spare cvs with ya, if your SFA, upgrade your front axle shafts, dirty 30`s or longs and you should be alright, other than that, carefull driving, but with lockers you get cocky and break anyway lol

had welded fromt and rear in my 86 4 runner when it was still ifs
never blew any cvs but did manage to tear rear upper control am mount out of frame
but i never ran it with one hub locked and one unlocked
thats just a good way to break stuff
and couldnt use 4wd in the snow on the street or have hubs locked either
weld the rear leave the front open
