Just picked up a 90' GMC Jimmy 350ci 4x4 auto, with only 140,000 KMs :D The truck was my Girlfriends dads, and before that it was his best friends dads. 2 owners, and never off road. Undercarrage looks new, but Paint is shit (was told the 90' vehicles had adhersion problems) its all stock. I just bought rims, and looking for some 33's for daily driving. over the winter I will be putting in a 4'' lift, most likely springs in front, and either drop shackles or blocks in the rear. Super excited, ive been waiting 7 years for this thing.[36]pics to come

yes it will, after i take care of the important stuff :) little rust to fix on the floor, temporary paintjob till after winter, do a intensive tune up, grease everything, install new speakers, head unit, sub, CB, offroad lights, probably upgrade alternator, then, 4 inch leafs upfront, and new shackles in rear,

the problem with the cheap paintjob
is it creates 3 times as much work and cost to do it properly next time
buy a touch up spraybomb the right coulor and just fog in the spots
to preserve it till you can paint it propperly

no need for a lift.. buy your self some cutting discs and have fun..
zero lift and 36's would look awesome, besides lifts are over rated, as for paint, just give the surface rust a quick sand and rattle can the same colour, that paint job is really nice man, would suck to do what everyone else does, and flat black it.. [cheers]

Lifts are not overrated, lifting your truck to the moon is. Stuffing tires on that are so big that you can't flex isn't always the best solution. I'd rather roll 31's and be able to flex than stuff 36s on that barely even fit in the fenders. Rancho makes a 4" soft ride kit for these trucks that is great. Knock out the sway bar, throw your tires of choice on and away you go.

01-05-2012, 03:28 AM
not to bash you but a air filter setup like that on a 4x4 that sees mud
isnt a good idea
you plugged the old one that was probably in the stock filter housing
now you dont have that housing deflecting the bulk of the spray away from the filter
and water will go right through a k&n at least get the outer foam wrap for it just sayin

96_z71
01-05-2012, 06:23 AM
Ya I had to make a pre-filter for my K&N intake kit, does a good job of catching the big curds of mud. Just remember to take it off when not wheeling.

Chody
01-05-2012, 09:42 AM
i have a weird thingy that slips over the filter for when im wheeling,(ok FSRing) keeps the crud and dust out. the old filter was a combo of not being changed in 10 years, and hitting a giant mudhole at 50+kmh. this truck wont be seeing stave mud or anything anymore, so im not worried.

03-12-2012, 11:24 AM
Ok, so here's the scoop.
I bought front and rear diffs with a 6"lift already on them. Figured why not kill 2 birds. Sat morning started at 9am. Removing the old diff was hell. Ended up having to cut all the bolts for shocks and diff, they were seized to the bushings.
after removing the diff we found this in it..
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/bb5e3af4.jpg

Blew the spider gears apart. We thought that was hell, untill we tried to take the drums off the "new diff". They were seized tight. no hole for the adjusters.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/0177f641.jpg

We ended up cutting our own thinking we could adjust it. didnt work so we hammerd on it whil prying. no go. after taking a chunk of drum to the chin..
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/47b376b5.jpg

we decided to cut the adjuster out
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/ec3dadc7.jpg

after prying the seized pads from the drum we finaly got it open and found this
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/85add89d.jpg

welded the backing plate on
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/4a91e30d.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/c6d0aef9.jpg

thought the worst was over...

we could not get the brakes together, i bought every kit but none came with the spreader piece or ebrake bracket. the old ones were so old that they were twice as thick with rust. Came to the conclusion that we would have to take apart my old brakes for good peices but then we would have nothing to reference how to put it together. THANK GOD FOR MY FRIEND BOBBY! right before fucking ourselves over for hours... he suggested, why not take the axles out, and just swap the entire backing plate/brakes from my old diff? not even 20 mins later that was done.(also saved me 200$ in new hardware)

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/2e947450.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/67d6d50b.jpg

the goodies
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h180/chodygt/7c5442ce.jpg

After we filled and bolted up the "new diff", it was time to slide it into the truck. that took another hour of coaxing, but all the new hardware made it alot easier. Turns out lordco gave me a stock replacement shock, not the one for the 6" lift. so after bleeding the brakes, i had one bumpy ass ride home. Shocks will be in today. and the front end is waiting for a week or two. The rear tok us 12 straight hours, only had enough time for 3 beers :S

I made this handy thing for polishing. use a die grinder and get the sanding attachment, that you can press sand paper on to. But instead of sandpaper use small pieces of old carpet with some autosol on it. Huge time saver, no swirl marks, comes out looking like chrome. one of the best "work with what you got" things I've ever used

I used to rebuild a lot of motor bikes, classics, not so much harley's (cause in my opinion, not a good bike), but early to late 70's yamahas, triumphs, nortons, bsa's.

For polishing autosol is the best, hands down. And the nice thing about it, is that usually when things get a bit dusty, or get road grime on it all you really need to do is just wipe it down with a clean cloth and it's like new again. Autosol is awesome for that.

As far as trying to keep it protected, surprisingly enough, a layer of pledge works wonders.

To show you what some autosol, that polishing tool and pledge can do, here's a pic of my last bike. A 1975 yamaha XS650, found this thing in complete pieces in a barn, rotting and covered in barn dust and restored it by hand.

Chody

it was an inbetweener change, didnt touch the filter, my buddy seems to think it could be an oil pressure sensor leaking? coming from higher up than filter

i have alot of spare stuff, 8inch front leafs, 4inch blocks, rims, bumpers...ect, hubs rotors, axles, t-case, is it a corp 10 in the front? and its in great shape, i wouldnt go spraying the truck with a bunch of primer, i would just touch up the parts that are bad with spray balm and limp the paint you have now, good looking truck![36]

Broke my exhaust at stave, had to replace. decided to shorten it up, and give it a nice growly sound.
Dumped it right in front of the rear drivers side tire

Its pointless only thing that is different is the rear end would be a 14 bolt 9.5 inch semi float and 8 on 6.5 inch bolt pattern so certainly better then a 10 bolt but the front is the same axle with 8 on 6.5 inch bolt pattern and bigger brakes

I got a 4.10 Front Dana 60 but DRW front hubs for it so u would have to run hummer H1 bead locks or find SRW hubs which can get new for like $400 each or used ones

clearanced the front wheel arch a bit to make room for the swampers side lugs
also did a temporary paint job to the peeling paint to protect against rust.
