I found him on craigs list ....turned t-donk onto him for his sled....has his own shop and seems to know what he is doing. as I told t-donk he has yet to do me wrong. works on anything with an engine.

I used to have a 1974 TY250,
Have you checked the screen on the fuel cock? Mine was always full of rust.
If you have spark and no air blockage then fuel is pretty much the only other choice.

well, my tank did rust out... also, when it backfires, it looked like it came out the case too?

Unscrew the fuel tap from gas tank, is probly full of shit.
What do you mean came out of the case?

looked like a puff of smoke out the right side cover, cant really remember, may have been the exhaust mani... ima bring it into work, do my damage, and mabie pay someone next week to fix it lol....

sounds like you have a fuel issue. i would take the fuel hose off and see what the flow is like.. if you have smoke coming out the side cover, im not sure how the cases go together but it uses the case for intake charge. if that is leaking you could have lean problems and that is BAD news bears.
also things to note try not to use quick start on a 2smoke.

Partly plugged pilot jet would be my first guess.
