Probably a burnt torque convertor. Also, there could be a plugged transmission cooler line because of a one-way check valve being plugged with shit from the tranny fluid. Did your 'trans-temp' light come on on your instrument cluster panel? If the torque convertor is going out then the engine will race because it is not hooking up to the torque curve the engine is wanting to give it. When that happens the TPS will get sort of confused and the computer will send erroneous signals to try to balance things out. Thats' just what I have had happen to my Dodge and the transmission is being rebuilt. Do you have a trans cooler and is it the stock piece? Try searching through the www.dodgetalk.com (http://www.dodgetalk.com) website for more information on your tranny. You have to join the website but it is very well worth joining. Regular once a year tranny fluid changes are the order of the day with a full flush to get all the crud out of the lines as well as having the check valve checked and/or replaced every year or else you run the risk of losing a very expensive tranny. Like the old saying goes...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I got mine done at Berts'Transmission in Langley. I am happy with their work but you might be able to get a better price than I did and mine wasn't a diesel either, just a gas pot and it cost me $2901 with a 1 year warrantee on parts and labour.

As a side note, I just installed today a Hayden transmission cooler on my 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 and also a transmission temperature gauge. I hooked up the gauge first and recorded the temperature then installed the cooler and about an hour later it was all done and road tested with no leaks and the transmission temp was a whopping 60 degrees Farenheit cooler!! I wasn't towing anything or carrying the camper so I imagine with a load I might see maybe 40 or more degrees of extra cooling.

Looks like FUN!!! I love that lake, especially down at the end where the powerhouse is. Great fishing right in front of that place. The mountains surrounding are absolutely drop dead gorgeous!

I assumed it was Stave by all the posts I have read on this site. I do get out a lot to many lakes but mostly north and east of Merritt. I usually stay away from the lakes closest to the lower mainland, too many people around. I go to lakes for like a week where almost nobody ever comes around.
