they are a disposable unibody design
basically a 4x4 minivan
most of them are a horrid green or brown

and they all seem to leak oil if they have the 4.0L and all the V8's are awd and drink gas like a big block

Yup.... I am! The cherokee will be coming off the road january, as its just failed airscare..... go fuck yourself after that she becomes a trail rig. Once she's toast, than a Toy is in my future... Ill push my luck with the grand for now... She's been nice sofar![36]

Head gaskets on the 5.2, quoted 6+ for heads and rebuild, traded it in

i had one as a dd, lived in lac la hache at the time, was great on gas on the highway, towed the boat nice, comfy. had 470,000k, original motor and trany. ran great and rolled it off knife creek road, endoed then flipped 6 times and walked away. so, id say its safe too. and i limped it home a few days later so id say tough as well.

The grand was a heavy ass jeep with a week ass recarnated 318 motor. the rear wheel wells were verry small [smaller than the cherokee] so wheel size is limited unless u want big lift. And the computer systems in them are way over doen.. 3 computers all have to talk to each other for the dam thing to run properly. You would be better off if u wanted to get some thing a little newer and cleener start looking for a cherokee classic 95 and newer. Look for the auto aw4 with the 242.

my oldest bro had a v8 one , nice truck but very thirsty and it seemed like parts were expireing all at the same time for him

I'd do the v8 if I had my way

too heavy for the i6, to many ecu's for the 8
..alloy dana 30
unitbody needs some seam welding in key locations and additional
plating in others...
drinks gas like it owns a derrick

--wow! it's like driving a lazyboy(tm)
--4 coil suspension
--i6 ..nuff said or a big v8
--rear disk

with the right sw3aps from different years you get dana 44s front an rear
And if your lucky ..quadra track AND front and rear lsd!

I loved mine it was the best outta the box wheeler I had with minimal mods. 2 inch lift 32 inch 11.5 tires some minor fender trimming and ditched the sway bars. Easy cheap and the only thing that let me down was the alt when I swamped it with mud because they are in a stupid location on the sixer. And the track bar bushing so it acquired death wobble cost me 12 bucks to fix.
Also had a 5.2 limited one as well and to go from Richmond to Pemberton loaded with camping gear at $1.30/liter cost me $25 I dont think thats to bad. Drive it like a douche and you'll pay for it. The six was $20 for the same drive but much less power.
