Well so this all started out as a 78 bronco [36] but i soon learned that it was big and heavy and would always brake parts so i bought a jeep yj and thus how the story begins i am builiding this as simple as can be :D

78bronco
10-07-2011, 07:04 PM
so ive forgotton to take the odd pic along the way but we all know what a 87 yj with a 4.2L looks like in stock form

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1978bronco/stuff001.jpg
and dont worry those nurff bars are also comming off

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1978bronco/stuff008.jpg

here are the frame rails getting all smoothed out removing all the factory brackets and such
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1978bronco/stuff003.jpg

What are your plans for it?

78bronco
10-07-2011, 08:04 PM
youll see more pics to come its just a very basic set up that works very well and i plan to us ethe jeep for a bit of everything.NOW befor anything is said in 95% of these pics it is not the final product those pics will be seen at the end of this build also these pics have been taken over the last year as i only get a day or so a week to work on it

So in this next set of pics the mock up motor and np435 with np205 is in the whole and i mocked up the super duty hydro boost and started on the new gauge cluster that will house my new old gauges from my bronco

inside of the front frame rail gussests to stop the weak ass frame from bending back on itself and the out side has the same thing done

I am no fabricater but that motor mount looks like it has fail potential the way it is just sitting out there like that with no real support
.

youngun
10-07-2011, 11:35 PM
Yeah, I would cap those motor mounts top and bottom and add a gusset or two from the tab back into the frame

Hellboy
10-07-2011, 11:44 PM
I'm in the same boat as 4Lo... The bracket looks weak...

Maybe put a triangular gusset on the outside of each of the brackets flanges, and hooked to the frame of course... Should keep it from bending outwords and the motormount itself keeps it from bending inwards. Picture this 'U' is your bracket, inside the 'U' is your bolt but outside is where a gusset could potentially go... Then again, maybe it's fine and I'm wrong or like to overbuild things... :dontknow:

It's a cool build either way look forward to seeing it done

78bronco
10-08-2011, 12:08 AM
thanks guys and the motor mounts arnt finished yet the motor mount will be intergrade into a under the motor crossmember and will be gusseted on the sides and a bat wing type gusset on the top to cover it and join to the frame ;)

m j
10-08-2011, 11:11 AM
the motor mounts are about 10 times stronger then the frame you glued them to.

do you have a transfercase in there yet? your transmission is higher then mine and I placed mine up until I had almost no clearance between the tub. might be the added length of the blackbox putting the case in a less favourable location in my case

youngun
10-08-2011, 11:21 AM
I kinda figured you were going to add more to them but with the shiney coat of paint I was not sure

Apathy
10-08-2011, 11:45 AM
i'd cut them off and build complete new ones, and then weld the plate to the frame, not the supports directly to the frame like that, i'd be afraid they will tear the frame.

78bronco
10-08-2011, 11:58 AM
hey mj :) well that motor was cut out and i lowered the motor 3"s to help with drive shaft ange and i also had a short output shaft made for the 435 just waiting for a few parts to get finshed machined to put the t-case back in. and the motor mounts will be fine trust me the shiny black paint is to stop the rust

youngun
10-08-2011, 12:35 PM
You gotta move to kelowna, we paint our stuff once its all done, don't have to worry about rust mid way threw a build. hahahahahahaha

it will have 44" boggers and snow trails fsr just have fun with the high hp or sell it and put the motor in a muscle car .. and i think there is close to 28-32" to the bottom of the link mount . the first thing it gets caught on i am gonna re do the links ;) and in that last pick that 64cj commented on that is ride height

looks sweet, what size tire are you going to be able to fit without having any clearance issues with the header? or will it even be an issue?

78bronco
10-02-2012, 08:47 PM
i am running 44's and i dont think it will be a issue a 16.5x8 wheel with 5" bs is fully outside the fender so hopfully yhe 15x14 with 3.5bs will clear the tubes i hope .......

and thank you guys and i did the math last night and the overall header tube length will be 31.5" from the flange to the beginning of the collector

bawhahaha to let the heat out from the bigblock

this is very important. BB's create alot of heat. one of the advantages to my doving the front of the airplane was allowing more airflow in the engine bay.
