View Full Version : Dirty thought....

So I have two project vehicles and really only need one. My scout with an aging near 40 year old motor. Rebuilt tranny and rebuilt 3/4 ton running gear. A few months back I picked up a Malibu with a fresh 450hp small block and a fresh turbo 350.
Someone this weekend offered up the parts to convert my 2wd turbo 350 to a 4wd one and a 205 tcase.
My dirty thoughts
Put the chev power plant in the scout.
Will the turbo 350 with a very aggressive shift kit 3500 stall TC and ratchet shifter work with 411 geared axles and will it be reliable?
I'll probably run around 36-38 inch tire again.

thoughts please

I was gonna throw that motor in a blazer and if I did I woulda done away with the auto and gone standard.

You need a stall convertor with that motor and the high stall would cause a lot of heat wheelin.I got a bell housing for a standard trans if ya want.

Thats what Mike was tellin me I'd need a lower stall convertor unless I just wanted to mud the truck and that I dont want. I could go standard but then I'd have to use a clutch and heavy truck clutches and me dont work well. I end up spillin beer. Unless its a hydro clutch?

If you put that motor in your truck you will spill beer clutch or no clutch

epic3

what trans is it for? guess if I go to manual I could find a 5 speed and have overdrive finally
The more I think about it the more I like the idea

epic3
09-27-2011, 04:49 PM
I already have a fresh built turbo 350 so If I change trannies it'll be to a sm465 or nv3500 I'm thinkin

So the parts have been sourced. And the rebuild should begin in a couple of weeks or so.
450hp Buck Kinney small block.
Turbo 400 rebuilt with a 205 tcase
D60 front with 35 spline axles in and out.
Currently has FFD60 rear may keep may swap to a FF14B
Crossover and highsteer.
39" Boggers.
Custom driveshafts with 1450 ujoints.
Keeping with the coils in the front (bronco 4" lift coils and buckets)and leafs in the rear.
Full autometer gauge set.
Maybe even a splash of nice paint not rattle can.

deadline spudspudspudspudspud run

they are not that much different:dontknow:
regular gm bbc valve covers fit as well as do headers
you can even run a bbc camshaft in them the fireing order is different
but easily changed147760

147761even roller rockers from a bbc fit
with a stud thats metric thread into head and 7/16 for adjuster
but at least youre right about them being a torq monster

Fuel injection and its a straight swap motor for motor so fuel injection for free and almost the same amount of HP and much more torque in a more useable rpm range.
Yes my scout will now get a remote starter lol

I did some bakers in her tonight and then promptly pulled it into the shop and yanked the hd44 out. The d60 is sittn right infront of her now and this week will be in and the sawsall will be triming more fender away to clear the 40's.
Its been sittin dormant for almost a year and a half so to get her fired right up and doin burnouts was a great feeling!
It will be out for maylong at stave providing I dont run into any troubles but not with the 496 BB.

epic3
05-02-2012, 10:18 PM
The d60 is in, the suspension and steering is done, it needs wheel bearings and brakes tomorow but I bolted up the 40's and drove it in the shop.
Needs more fender trimming!
