check that the water pump is moving water. I had a pump that looked good with almost no fins left. open the rad cap at cold, let run till the thermostat opens and check the flow. This will let you know if the rad is plugged as well.

this makes more sense then a dead water pump

over heating and blowing frost plugs could be a indication you wont always get oil in coolant or coolant in oil
there is a test for combustion gasses in coolant

we put some stuff in freinds honda that head gasket was definatly fucked and it lasted 6 months think it was rislone or lucas

It could be both water pump isn't moving water and the head gasket went or maybe the head warped a bit and now goes past the gasket popping the frost plug

had this once happen where my rad cap failed and wouldnt allow over pressure to release. check your rad cap, most likely not but no harm in checking
