i got a toyota t-case and tranny with cross member for free . its out of a 87-89 toyota 4runner.

do any of you know how to tell if its a chain or gear driven t-case without splitting it open?

it has a top shiffter t-case

pretty easy the gear driven ones are smaller
look under yours should look the same
or try google ing it

well i checked them out and i have a gear drive in the truck and the one that was given to me is chain.

now down the road if i wanted to dual t-case i need both to be the same right?

gear to gear or chain to chain ?

you need gear to gear
the doubler was one of the best mods i did in my runner

ya i bet i just need to find a gear drive t-case .
