I do believe we figured out the issue with the 22r not running right, with the help of a few friends...Thanks Mike and Andrew.

So it's drowning in fuel, reason is some one put a 22r in a 22re 4runner so they hooked up the electric fuel pump
but the 22r uses the mechanical, so the issue is too much fuel pressure, so I have to put a fuel pressure valve so I can dial down the fuel pressure..

Unless some one has a 22r sending unit kicking around they aren't using....sell it to me..

Other wise I now know what the problem is and how to fix it.

And here's another pic of the paint

do you have a mechanical pump on the engine?
if so just unplug the in tank fuel pump. or unplug the efi fuse.

i have put a couple 22r's into vehicles that had 22re's. first truck i just took out the efi fuse so the check engine light wasnt on all the time.

my 85, i unplugged the fuelk pump. under the right rear passenger seat there should be an access panel to the sending unit.

Yes I do have a mechanical fuel pump in it. So I could go a number ow ways..

yes you are correct there is a access panel and we un plugged the pump but because of safety standards the newer ones have a check valve in them so if the vehicle gets hit (Hard Enough) it automatically shuts off the fuel pump to prevent the gas from continuing to come out. So as soon as we un plugged it no more fuel came threw.

So I can just put in a fuel regulator valve for 35 bucks o

Or I could find a 22r sending unit and delete the electric pump.

Or Block off the manual pump and still use the electric pump with the fuel regulator.

:confused0006: what ever is easiest works for me [36]

I have a 22re from my 94 4runner I'm parting out but it has a weak cylinder apparently, so I'm gonna rebuild it and keep it as a spare...

They said the 22r had 150000 K on it. So I wanna play with it for a while....would be cool to set up dual webbers on it..

Got it running last night....Wooooohoo....Thanks for the help Bruce.
So now I gotta pull the pump out of the tank and remove the pump it self then attach a small length of hose to reach the bottom of the tank and put it back together.

And then get all the gauges working and stuff like that....Cool it has come to life

So some changes have happened now...........This 4Runner is now the one that will be SASed and the grey one aka Thumper will be the Daily Driver.

Reason for this change was apon inspection under the back of the 4runner I found wait for it................................................ ......................some rust that had taken out most of the coil mounts on the frame so I desided it made more sense to cut it out and SAS it......The grey one is mint under the truck so I already swapped out the upper and lowr ball joints, tie rods. and Idler arm.

Next I will dig out the cut off discs and start cutting the old ifs and rear suspension out...I'll snap some pics 2morro...........Now it's gonna start gettin interesting...

Time for sketching plans...............and yes it's gonna look kinda like the Griswold Station Wagon....

Sorry mang I will be using it as one of the new cross members...

and thanks Leanne, I like personalizing tail lights to make them unique, Helps being an artist... It's about a four to six hour job to mask, draw, cut and paint. and I charge $100.00 a pair to do it.
