did the 9 inch in my wagon without a jig
but if you dont spend money on the 9 inch
nodular center billet pinion support etc
the explorer 8.8 is stronger and uses less power to turn it
just saying

If he shortens it make sure he tries to shorten it either
Spec of another axle so that he dosent have a hard time finding that side shaft when he breaks it,

The 8.8 is still a c clip axle

My 44 was narrowed to EB width so just replace long inner axle with a bronco one . Only cost rest just labour .

the explorer 8.8 i striped for gears wasnt a c clip it was a nine inch style bearing retainer
not shure what year explorer it was out of was disk brake
and a c glip eliminator kit is around a hundred bux
yur saving the cost of narowing the diff and having a odball length axle
that isnt avalible at pik a part
or hicks ville towing and autowrekers
when you break a axle in butfuck nowhere
its a custom order 3weeks to sorry that is a back order part
we should be doing another run in 6 months
just saying it took 6 weeks for the strange axles in my chevelle
