View Full Version : cheap electric fuel pump?

Buddy is putting a 305 in his 81 4x4 and 305 is from a tbi truck so he put a edelbrock intake and reg carb on it. I bought a electric fuel pump about 2 yrs ago for my 79 Suzuki LJ80 and it was somewhere between $40-60 and will crawl under it today to see if it has a brand name on it. Lordco has a carter for $100.80 taxes in where you can mount anywhere. The one for my LJ I mounted by tank as thats what it said to do. So anyone knowwhere I( can buy a cheaper one, like brand and part # would be cool or a place I can order off the internet? Even buy a used one too that works... feel free to text me at 250-706-0655...

Do not under any circumstances buy the Carter they are crap from day one , that cheap one you are talking about is probably a Mr Gasket not a very good one , I would recommend a Holley Blue with regulator are about $110 and they will never let you down out in the bush.

Cheap fuel pump shouldn't be put together in a sentence

I have a 3-7 psi Mr gasket,has been in there for about 4 yrs. think it was about 40. bux, I bought 2 and still carry the spare with me.Just mount it in an easy access spot.Mind you I'm only feeding a hyundai pony carb,you may need more for a 4 bbl [cheers]

cant you use a regular mechanical fuel pump from the previous motor?

Don't try to save money when buying a fuel pump. Buy an Aeromotive pump and be done with it.

So bought Mr Gasket micro pump for $42 and mounted it on pass. inner fender and working great so far....

Mount it as close to the fuel take as you can.

We figured where its mounted close to top of frame rail on inner fender was at same level as fuel tank but even close on the horizontal better??

just did my in tank fuel pump on my z71, i only use acdelco filters, plugs and fuel pump, no fram crap or fancy japenese 14 prong spark plugs, certain things you don't want to cheap out on.

Fuel pumps are usually designed to push fuel not suck it. It's best to mount it as close to the tank and slightly below so that the pump is gravity fed. Don't forget to put a filter before the pump you don't want any crap that may be in your tank going throughyour pump.

i got 7 years out of my carter pump mounted on the inner fender. kind of a stupid spot but thats where it was when i bought the truck. last year i put another carter on, in the same spot, it will prob outlast the truck. my lowrider has a holly blue mounted after the tank it lasted 3 0r 4 years. it burns nothing but 94 octane... go figure...:dontknow:

I used a holly regulator with return with a holy pump and the regulator return plugged on its first use and sprayed the engine compartment with fuel and lit on fire.. so my suggestions is to use a constant duty low pressure pump not a performance pump :p
