Ok so I just got me a warn winch 8000 pounds. I think it is the 8274 but not 100% sure yet. just got it last night and had not had a chance to look it over very well.

I only paid 150$ for it..so i figured i got a good deal. I do know it is a warn and 8000.

now...what should I be lookign out for? and what should I know about this?

I read good thigns about it online. any info would be great from first hand expirience or advice.

Going to be going on the front of my 1990 4 runner with chevy 350 under the hood and probly going to be 36 inch tires. oh and the front is SAS'ed allready.

Or if it's really old and an upright it could be an 8250. Dose it have an exterior band break ?

Make sure all your solenoids work and check the oil in it to see if its mixed with water.

sounds like it is th ewarn M8000 that was a cable controlled (dash mount) winch, basically the model before the 8274.It is still a good winch just harder to find the controlls, there was some for sale on CL a while ago.

I'm not sure took the pics last night but never got them emailed to my work so i could upload them.

but the remote is not cable controled...it is electric...so i duno...and i think the ratchet part i was talking about is to let it "freespool" if that makes any sence...i duno....i do know it is soem dirty and some heavy...:S

Looks like an 8274. Not 100% sure though. Can you read any of the writing on the name plate. Its usualy got model and serial number there.
