Hello guys, first off it's been about 3 years since I've done any wrenching and have had a truck. So I decided to go pick up my truck in terrace and drive it back here to Calgary. Of course with my luck I blew the slave cylinder and throwout bearing so now it sits in the shop and I figured might as well build it up. So this will be my build thread. I would appreciate and tips, ideas, contacts or anything you might wanna share.

look on kijiji and pick up one of the gas powered 2500's there was a ton of em for a couple grand on there, the 1500 uses an nv3500 tranny which is garbage for a fullsize truck and a 231 transfer case. Gas 2500 uses a nv 4500 tranny which is basically the old 4 speed with a 5th gear added in tailhousing (pre 98 had an issue with 5th gear retainer nut could come off 98 later they changed that), and a 241 transfer case, axles would be a pretty easy swap too, well worth the $ 1500 bucks as if yur tranny blows its about that alone. the gas 4500 will bolt right in place of yur 3500 even yur 231 transfer case will bolt up to it only thing is bellhousing is hard to find so easier to get whole truck and convert it all.

My 01 blew 2 transfer cases and one tranny at 185,000 kms was used hard first transfer case was war by previous owner second i paid for, the tranny was its last straw. I was running 35's and it would snap front axle ujoints regularly. Mine was a 5.2 cold air intake dual cherry bomb mufflers, had a reprogram sticker (dont know what was done) but thats about all, but stock they push 280 ft lbs tourque and that tranny transfer case are rated for 300 max.

www.topguncustomz.com (http://www.topguncustomz.com) has all sorts of lifts quite cheap, I lifted my 01 1500 for about 200 bucks. They have custom length controll arms, all sorts of goodies.

Make sure the lights are mounted solid. You don't want them flopping around when your on rough terrain.

If you want to upgrade your clutch when you do the slave and clutch master look up south bend clutch in Red Deer. They do package deals for different hp ratings, you can get a basic replacement clutch or a kit with master, slave, clutch and flywheel, and there kits usually include a steel braided line instead of that cheap plastic crap. Also look for an off road shop in Calgary, Modern off-road, excelent service there.

Yes thanks didn't know ford was the same,

Lift is in so will pick it up after work and get ready for the install. Will take lots of pics. Hmm now time to order new tires/rims. What do you guys recommend? I will be doing lots of highway driving, field job sites an of course MUD. I was thinking 36's or 37's. Thanks

I had a set of toyo mts worked good for all that but were soft and wore out pretty quick, and are pricey. If its your daily driver I see lots of people are running the dunlop rover mts as they come in good sized and have the snowflake winter rating reasonable price and decent wear from what ive seen. Didnt have em on my truck but my ex had em on her cummins ram she had a good 10,000 kms still looked new and went really well, quiet too.

dand dodge d44 fronts, mine was always bustin stuff, i used cheap ujoints that way they broke first.

If I ever got another ram 1500 id also get a 2500 from alberta farmer cheap and swap in from tranny down 1500 stuff is too weak to be used.
