so a buddy an i went up to chinahead via yalakom rd, was a challenge an a blast. camped ontop one of the mtns (-13) and had a difficult time pushing 4 ft of snow, would have had an easier time with my chains on but i was lazy and didn't feel like putting them on!! since i'm lazy and dont want to label all the pics. basically went from littouette to yalakom rd to (around) chinahead to big bar!!

lots OF pics tooo!!

they are feral horses, near lillouette and pemberton and other places throughout bc there are often herds of horses mainly belonging to the natives. They are on crown land and roam where ever they want... we have a couple herds around here that are horses people just turned loose after awhile or the horses excaped. There is a true wild mustang herd in the Britany Triangle in Nemiah Valley.

Too funny!
You took a picture of the mouse trap I had set up on my tire! (all four tires at one point) Edit: either that or you were taking a picture of my baldassed tire...

Score that weekend was five mice and one whisky jack :(

I'm assuming that was you that walked out on the ice and tossed the rocks then?

Edit: (again) When we went through the game check in Boston Bar on Sunday night, the CO mentioned the ferry was shut down. Clearly that wasn't the case. I decided to go West Pavillion both in and out. Perhaps it might have been faster had I gone over the ferry... close to three hours to get out to Lillooet with the truck and camper while flat towing the samurai. Schrader lake is at the 109Km mark on the West Pavillion FSR. Road wasn't too bad. The rain turned everything to ice on top there and nice gooey gumbo in other parts. The Ice I could deal with. It was the gumbo that had the whole works sliding sideways around a couple corners.

never threw a rock but did walk out onto the ice... went to check out the game trails along the ice. was that you an your buddy that we saw on quads, when we came down the windy tight trail? always check out bcferries for the inland ferries. saw your price hanging from the tree look yummy!!

No, We were in a samurai. I would have liked to have gone up Chinahead but we never made it. Spent most of our time north of the camp site.

Shot the deer at noon on the 12th. That one was dumb as a post. First saw it 200 yards away walking toward us. It just kept coming despite the fact we were both chattering like a couple magpies. Finally shot it when it was 30 feet away. Had a heck of a time determining number of points on it's head. Two on one side and four on the other. The one tine was small enough, the CO paused for a second when he saw it at the game check in Boston Bar.

See anything for tracks up on top?

I would like to see if there is a trail that goes down to the fraser (other than at the ferry)

no tracks on top, completely dead!! only tracks i saw was at the beginning of the trail to chinahead and on the frozen lake..

without chains an some clearance you would have not made it to chinahead, we had to **cough, cough drive ontop of the mtns then drive down an find the actual rd cough, cough** the snow was deep

I was looking at one of those pictures you posted... didn't seem like any part of the trail I remembered.... :)

I can see where it would have been VERY difficult to stay on the trail specially when it's buried in a pile of snow....

This was taken in warmer weather....

11-19-2010, 09:19 PM
thats where the weather station is?!

we should have stayed at the lake an camped there but there didn't seem like a lot of room there an we didn't want to intrude... i took wood though :D

westcoaster
11-19-2010, 10:04 PM
Yup, that's the weather station...

Flat spots to pitch a tent at Schrader Lake are at a premium alright. There's quite a nice spot across the road from the entrance to Schrader. Not sure if it was occupied when you went through. It would be a little more sheltered than Schrader itself. Quite often the wind would blow through the camp site where it would be calmer if you just stepped into the trees a little.

You STOLE some of our wood?? I hadn't noticed... :)

(more than enough to go around)

we camped down at the fraser an the wind wouldn't let up, it just got more violent at night which sucked cause we couldnt have a fire an it kept putting out the burners for food :(

the funny thing was the wood was a lot dryer ontop of the mtn then at the lake

I went down to the ferry once with the truck and camper and that has to be more than 10 years ago. My memory of that trip is mostly that the trail down was rather steep....

Did you see any trails heading north along the river on the west side?

Up at the end of west pavillion beyond the 120Km mark the road comes close to a bluff. You can walk out and get a great view of the canyon below. You can see where years ago someone drove a bulldozer through and carved a trail out on the flats below. (trail is long overgrown with sage brush)

earliest we have been up is may (i think we could make it up there before then depending on the winter) I can always email the guest ranch and find what the snow is like there and the latest we have been up is october but then again it depends on the winter if its early or late
