Finally putting the lift into my 93 F150, I`ll post pics of progress when i locate a camera.

Anyways, its a 6' bds lift and I'm going to have a few questions along the way.

Firstly, it has a 8.8" rear and I want to put in a 9" out of a 1981 Bronco. Can I just throw it in, or will my transmission not shift right. If I remember correctly, there is a speed sensor that is needed.

On the front diff, how do I go about pulling the axles? The diff is already removed.

the rear diff will have your speed sensor and abs so u wont have a odometer or abs

the 8.8 is as strong as the 9 inch
and its already in it
just saying

why do you want to pull the axles on the front ? just to do the u joints? to pull them you have to take the locking hub off , the nuts that are threaded onto the spindle inside the break rotor and then the spindle

The plan is, I want to use the 81 front diff and keep the 8.8 but depending on gear ratio's I might just have to use the 9" rear and 81 front. Or... I'll keep my 93 front pumpkin and keep the 8.8. I have a blown cv, and the splines are screwed on the passenger side... I'm going to mitch and match everything to make it all work and rebuild what I can with available funds. I'm not worried about the ABS and the speed sensor... I can do without a spedometer.

oh and you may need a special socket depends how tight the last person put the nuts on

:dontknow: dosnt the speed sensor for speedo run off transfer case
the rear diff one is abs

The speed sensor is in the diff from 92+. Controls your speedo and trans shift. The front diff out of the 81 is different too, but in a good way. It doesn't have an internal snap ring holding the right side axle in, it has external bolts with a tapered bearing. That means you can use dana 44 high drive lockers and such in the front. You can get a tone ring to run your trans and speedo that goes on the transfercase but i've only seen them for Bronco 1356's.

Hope this helps!!:o

That's what I thought I know it did in my old bronco and I swapped the 8.8 for a 9 when I blew up the original one. But mine wasn't a 93 it was a 90.
Most broncos 80' and up had 355 gears so mixing your older front with the newer rear shouldn't be an issue unless someone changed gears at some time.

try unpluging the pumpkin for a day and see what happens. l dont think anything much would happen as l am sure it is just for ABS.

if its a 93 and an automatic you need the sensor or it wont shift properly, 8.8 is as tough as a 9 but the 9 can be build stronger.

Most 85+ had 3:55 gears when they went to the 8.8 and 9" trucks 80-84 had 3:50 gears Some late 84's had an 8.8 too. The 87-91 F series had the same plug on the rearend but it was just for abs (that didn't work) 92-96 controls speedo and trans and abs. (unless it's a 5 speed)[cheers]

so for my 96 F150, my speedo jumps around like a fat kid on halloween. It's an auto and every once in a while it will have a hard shift into OD. Are these related? Changing that Speedo/ABS sensor could help?

changing that sensor should fix your speedo my truck did the same thing changed it and has worked fine since

I did put in a used sensor I had, didn't change anything. Hopefully the ring inside the diff isn't fawked. But with 331,000kms who knows :(

i cramed a rock under the conector @ the sensor and taped it in there, it worked till i got another harness( it runs from the back of the front tank to the diff). it seams to fail more often than the sensor. and 92+ use the sensor for abs, spedo, and info for the trans.

so hows the progress on the lift??

got sorta lazy but still working on it slowly. Broke the pitman arm puller trying to pull the pitman arm, so that is left; along with the oil seal. Braided brake lines, new pads and calipers need doing and drive-shaft and tires once its off the jacks. Than the complete rear... but thats simple.

I think the brake lines are gonna confuse the fuck outa me, some sort of t-connector on the driver side.

Now guys, my lift is out of a 81 bronco with dual shocks. I am running single shocks and I installed the shorter of the two shocks onto the front but they still seem way to long. Is there a part number ## of a cheap shock that I can install instead? the BDS i dont think are going to work,

i just finished my 6in lift in my 95 last week
the front in a pain
as for the pitman arm
heat it up if you can and if not tap it with a hammer as you tighten the puller

mine was a pain and it had been on resently

front lift is in. when i go in reverse my tires have MAJOR camber issues. what the hell.

what are new u-bolts worth?? too late to price them out ;) I am thinking of of re-using the old ones but they're twisting haha

fullsizebronco
11-03-2010, 07:17 PM
if you put a jack under either side and jack up does the shock make contact? and hurry up and finish so you can install my lift ;) ;)

adam i can get you a set of u bolts made up right by my work guy did mine right in front of me cash and i would not run the old ones with the amount of wheeling you do and ya the camber can be fixed with an alignment remember my truck when i backed up

regulate34
11-03-2010, 09:01 PM
i cut mine off with a zip cut
my impact wouldnt even move them

and the camber issue is normal with the ttb
i rebiult my front end and all the ned bushing solved the issue

If your truck has the E4OD Tranny you need the rear sensor for the trans to shift properly, If it has the AOD the rear sensor is only for the rear abs.

As for your brake lines, make sure you got the right ones, when I got my lift they sent the wrong brake lines 2 out of the 3 were right.

And depending on what you have exactly for a drivetrain the shim that comes on the rear leaf springs might not be enough to correct the pinion angle.

I'm trying to get it ready for the toy run. After the lift is in, I need a front bumper and recovery points made up, lighting, re-do the engine mounts AGAIN, and give her a heater core and new rad hoses.

I agree and wash the thing before you work on it. Easier to see cracks and you can seat and tighten everything down proper. Plus not getting crap in your eyes is a added bonus.:p

we'll go to postil as soon as you bring me over a tire groover! haha Seriously tho, give me a week to work out the bugs and I've still got a u-joint that needs to be replaced along with the fact the truck still has no heat or recovery points.
