dont put a high pinion in the rear, youll drive on the coast side of the gear which is weaker.

high pinions go into the front, which changes the front from driving on the coast side of the gear to the drive side, = stronger but watch out backing out of something especially if your front is binded up. You can find them used in FJ80's

I have a high pinion in my zuk and beat on it with no breakages

I've seen some guys just cut the front of the pumpkin off and spin it 180 degrees and weld it back in and install the 3rd as a high pinion,

so with the third in upside down how do you . . .
A- oil it properly . . . and
B- more importantly, correct for the wrong direction of rotation of the ring gear

when you flip a diff upside down and drive it in a forward gear the truck will move backwards.[1b]

Hi pinion 3rds use all V-6 parts. So, a V-6 spool or locker will work in a hi pinion diff, as will all the bearings.

And a front diff put in the back of a Toyota, flipped upside down, to use as a rear steer, will still spin back wards in a forward gear. ;)

depends on what type of Hi pinion you use.
the ONLY hi pinion ever to put in a rear end and be reliable is the True Hi9.

I run hi pinions front and rear

It takes into consideration that the gear is running on the coast side, it uses a thrust block to control the deflection.
FACT: all low pinion rear ends drive on the drive side of the gear.
FACT: all low pinion front ends drive on the coast side of the gear.
FACT: all hi pinion rear ends drive on the coast side of the gear
FACT: all hi pinion front ends driveo on the drive side of the gear.

Make up your own mind...

If you want to get REALLY fancy, there is a hi pinion 3rd with an e-locker. They came factory in some Land Cruisers...
