toyota lc 70 , mecedes Gwagon, nissan patrol, are all very good and in alot of ways would be more desireable then the rubicon .

These vehicles outsell the rubicon worldwide but the NA marketplace is driven by people with lotsa money and little sense so they are tough to get here.

for vehicles that are reasonably priced and available to the masses in NA the rubicon is a pretty damn good platform.

Is it not true that the average consumer in North America wants flashy and fast over functional?

you can buy the G-wagen off the lot and special order the LC but for the average person that would be way to expensive.

The rubicon is one of the few that is functional over flashy like the ones i listed .

Has anyone here ever seen a diesel rubi?

How many other 4x4 NA platforms are there that is even close to takeing the function over flash premise.

(I left out the landrover only because it has the wheel spin sensors for traction and not actual lockers. )

Build & Price for this model of Defender (http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/defender/build/)Driving and Transmission

Defender's permanent 4 wheel drive with a lockable centre differential and dual range transmission system, offers almost unstoppable traction on and off road. Specially developed for heavy-duty applications, the six-speed manual transmission also provides smooth on-road performance, and economy, whilst the low first gear reduces crawl speed and makes towing effortless.

I was going to say the Ford Raptor as well. Comes factory with 35's and e-locking 4.10 diffs. I know for a fact you could go down to your Ford dealer today and buy one right off the lot. Well maybe tomorrow, they're probably closed right now... [15]

While I personally think that it is maybe a little fancy for my tastes, it would probably give a Rubi a run for it's money. Just my $.02

The Rubi, in my opinion, is totally over rated. I've known a couple of guys who bought them only to have to mod axles and so forth just like anything else. If you wheel it hard it will break and you'll wind up doing the mods. Why buy an overpriced "trail ready" anything when you can get a more basic model and do the mods you'll eventually have to do anyway? ... Jeep or otherwise.

I could only stomach so much, i only read to page three so i most likely miss more, you can't count those cause's.
But if boiled down, and somewhat paraphrased, what you are asking is.
If you are a poor guy with no imagination, unable to buy outside of say Abbotsford. Who has the best shopping cart in town?
Well i guess then i gotta go with Walmart over Save On, SuperStore or any of the others cause they don't charge a buck.
Unless of course you exclude carts with blue on them, or yellow faces, or they have to have green on them or, or, or.
Yep, your right, Jeeps the best.

land cruiser 80 series.

rubi's are ok. the only thing they have going for them is the 4:1 tcase. otherwise, the motor is junk. the drivetrain is junk. whats the point of buying a "trail ready" truck, and then just change out the axles? paying an extra few grand for the rubicon sticker on the hood is just silly.

dollar for dollar, apples to apples, stock vs stock...pretty much any "off road" trim, oem, NA spec'd vehicle can do what the rubi does. fj cruiser/4runner trail editions, ford fx-whatevers, nissans, hummers..etc.

when did you get a rubi kevin?

So Kev, you lookin to trade up/in?
Best advice I could give is >>>American vehicles drop like a rock in resale value year after year(except diesels),and usually start breaking parts around 150K. Imports hold their resale value quite well, and parts start wearing out close to 300K. A good used import( high 2000's),add what you want, and it will outlast a new American vehicle.
