Well I think I have too many projects and not enuff time.:o

1970 Toyota Celica. (1st model year)

Not running..

Paint old and a bit bubbly in a few spots.

Very custom, supra front end, lowered, sway bars, shaved off marker lights, all chrome was done.
Interior good but in boxes.

I have all the stuff to put it back together, have another engine in Victoria.

It has an 18rc in it, it can be changed to a 20 or 22r....same bellhousing.
Shadbolt cam,header, dual carbs.....

Last time it ran she was in her prime, 125mph...handled like on rails !! (almost as good as 510's.

Pains me to sell her, Would like it to go to a good home, other wise I'll cut her up and put her on a blazer frame.

I'll post pictures in a bit.

$2000 obo. :dontknow:

I built this car out of 11 celicas that I owned, its like a part of the family but I need to clear up some room.

Think I might build a 20 / 22r sandwich. :D
Keep in mind that a 20R/22R won't just bolt into yours. You'll need a special oil pan. The one from a 4x4 won't work. Neither will one out of a car of any year except '74 and '75. An oil pan from a 2wd Toyota truck from the mid to late '70's will work as well.
If you can't find one, I MIGHT sell you one of my spairs.
You'll also need a different upper radiator support, which angles further forward to move the rad forward. I have a spair one of those, too. You also may need a different rad, but I seem to remember the 4wd rad will work.
Also, the hood on Celicas that came with the 20R had a hump to help clear the engine. I'm not sure if you 'have' to have this hood or not. Just keep it in mind.
Just whatever you do, please don't cut the car to make stuff fit. ;)

On second thought...
I don't think you do need the hood. My first Celica was a '73 which would have come with the 18RC. It had a hood similar to yours, and the 20R fit under it. But it used all the other stuff, like the oil pan and rad support stuff. Also not sure if the bell housing pattern is the same for 18RC/20R/22R.

dirka dave
11-01-2010, 09:49 AM
the bell housing on my transmission is removable.

It's fairly easy to mod the rad support as it is removable.....

I can propably fab my own oil pan and I believe the 22r/ 20r will tuck in there quite nice....

I know its a shot in the dark but you wouldn't happen to have some "extra" 6.7" diffs kicking around. I think I have the typical 3.70 in my 71 Corona but the engine screams at 90kph with the little 215/50r13's on it.(lowered 2") Hoping to find maybe a 3.42 or 3.58.

Most of the restoration is done. Still need to put in the Webber 2bbl
