What is the casting number on those ones? sometimes u won't beable to see them until you get around to rebuilding them because my dad had cracks in his cube van heads and it wasn't until he sent them in for machining that u could see them.

462824 if that sounds right.. I'll have a much better look when I pop the "good side" off and clean them both up

Think that's the smogger head PN, and those were prone to cracking between valves, look carefully between the seats.

462624 I think are the common smogger ones, here's a link to casting numbers:

75-86 350/400 76cc 1.72"/1.5" 1.94"/1.5" or 2.02"/1.6" valves and yea they would be a lighter cast-iron head so they are more prone to cracking so if you are gonna reuse them get them magnafluxed. Need to find a set of 10239902 heads these are the 96-up vortec heads with 64cc chambers, 170cc runners and 1.94"/1.5" valves.

the heads are actually doing pretty good surprisingly, definitely worth giving another shot now that they're cleaned up, will be lapping the seats and putting in new valves today while it's apart

Why not send the heads in for mag particle? I have the gear in richmond and would do it if you can get those heads to bare metal

yup those lite weight heads are prone to cracking
not realy worth fucking with rebuilding
costs more than buying decent aftermarket aluminum heads
but i understand not having the dough

yeah I'm back at bcit in a week and went way over budget long ago lol if I can still use these heads then I'm going to have to for a while

Found a small crack in an exhaust valve seat while rebuilding the head. Glad I didn't spend money on a mag :P should have another set of heads in the next few days [cheers]
