what about fly wheel and clutch did this was a nitemare
wound up putting a c6 in it
tore a ringgear up every 4th starter drive got real good at taking it apart
belive a company called L&L products sells a flywheel
that works with the 351 400m bellhousing
a 360 390 fly wheelbolts to 460 need to be balanced to 460
but tooth count on ring gear is wrong why it tore starters up
the fly wheel from later zf 5 speed trucks doesnt fit in early bell housing
i tried machined it for early clutch and turned diameter down still no go

09-05-2010, 11:34 PM
I have a flywheel from a 390 I think, Then I tried to get a starter for a 390 so it matched ring gear. But I found out they all spin the same and depth is the same and same amount of teeth on starter for 351m/400/429/460 and that works with 390, So im not sure. 76 460 should be internally balanced...??

78'460
09-05-2010, 11:36 PM
Also I have a centerforce stage 3 11" clutch bolted upto 390 fly wheel. If you end up with flywheel from 390 let me know and ill go through my recites and find the part number for the clutch.

If you mean cross steer , the pitman arm swings out over the leaf and you have watch how much drop is in the arm and limit up travel with bump stop .
With 4" lift only have about 3" clerance over leaf on a hard left turn . Great looken truck .

So yesterday evening and all day today, i got the hood, fenders, grille, doors, and panels off[36] [36] . Weather made it hard to work but got lots done, surprisingly the panels and grille fit really nice, doors took some adjustment but got them smooth, hood on the other hand is being a pain!go fuck yourself took the nice guage cluster out aswell and installed it too. heres some pictures:

Took off the original front clip and replaced it with the 76 ones, had to drill 8 holes for the light housing but other than that it was just about a million bolts:D

http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/Sept16-10024.jpg
painted the inner off the grille piece, turned out great!

http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/Sept16-10029.jpg
Rain started so we moved it into the shop to finish the fenders and inner fenders and some grille pieces[36] fits like a glove!

as for the fly wheel... i got a 460 in mine and just did the clutch lol it was a nightmare.... truck had a 351 in it to start and got swaped.. so now i got the 460 out of a 73 and thats hooked up to a np 435 and then to a np 208.. so from what i figured out it has a flywheel off a 360.. so it has an 11" clutch but has the big block bolt pattern... im gonna guess my bell housing is from the same.. since you got a 351m you shouldnt have a problem with the bell housing but heck if that helps any there yea go... as for the mounts.. cant you just get some new 460 mounts???

Got lots more done this week; got the box removed from the 79, wire wheeled the frame and gave it a good think spray bomb, remounted the glass packs and. Had that finished i started to take the 2wd box off took a while old bolts no fungo fuck yourself zip disc to the rescue! Cant quite figure out the wiring something is wrong with the brake lights and such, ill figure it out soon. box mounted. started making some diamond plate floor boards. Coming along!
i will be planning on selling the cab/frame of the ext cab. no sure if i will be keeping the doors and box, may put it all back on the truck and sell as whole.

been working lots but managed to take off all the chrome trim and badges off the truck, grinded and sanded all the rivits off, pulled anf fixed as many dents as possible, preparing for paint soon, would have liked to paint it this weekend, but a drive will not stop the rain. I also was able to snag a 1250lb engine stand from the fleamarket for $30! works great!

well over the week i began to prep the truck for paint. Took off all the badges and chrome and removed the rivets. sanded the entire truck down with and began bondo. it worked out great for some rookie bondo work, cant even tell. also took some bed liner along the bottom before paint. all and all extremely stoked on the turn out... now i just need some damn tires!

been busy this week, so i havnt got lots done. but here are some updates.
I removed the 3'' body lift, it was a real [27] those old mount were not so easy to get out! But after a few hours of grinding, smashing and cursing i got them out and replaced them all with a kit from energy suspension for $80!
made a huge difference but i hate body lifts.
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/Oct22-10007.jpg With lift removed from cab and new poly bushings in.

Also drove up to kamloops on saturday morning and bought some really nice boggers. in awsome shape. buuut the rims ii was going to use ended up not being the right size and cant afford new ones at the moment:badday
Cut my fenders today also, for some extra clearance for the 38.5's

I did a 360 -429 swap in my 68 ford back in 89 and used flat plate and old dodge motor mounts. They were almost square and had a stud on both sides. Not sure what year ir was from but its from a dodge truck. Marked the plate for holes to the block, then for the mount stud. The other stud on the other side will fit into the hole in the motor mount on the frame. Seen pics of it on the web probably easy to find. As for the starter problem if the nose on the starter isnt the right lenght it wont watch the teeth and match up , had the same problem. Had to use nose mount of an older starter and never had the problem again. The starter on the auto should work just fine.

Well after loosing my booster driving down stave, i ran into same great problems! Got a f350 boost/master from shawn, worked great, had to run some new lines. after getting everything done, we went to bleed the brakes... all the bleeder nipples were seized :ballsmack
so to make things easier i bought some new cylinders and put them in took off the drums, seen a mess of where i thought there were brakes, but found broken springs and more dirt and sand then all of stave.
But thankfully the old donor had new brakes so i robbed those

some parts are still available for them, not the dials though
there is a newer thread on pirate trying to get vendors to repop the spicers
my advice is to keep them as they are the best hub to use if you ever go to 35 spline front outer shafts, well other then the $500usd dynatracs
if you ever decide you dont want them dont throw them away give them to someone as they are very rare, last made in 1981

44 boggers when you look on the side wall say to use a 12" wide rim stamped right on the tire

detroits come as a lunch box style on the 14b. split carrier, remover spiders and cross pin, install.

that looks like a detroit. youd be able to see the spider and side gears from the window if it was stock.

too bad about the wasted efforts of putting a gm anchor in your ford. swapping axle time vs axle swapping time for a ford 10.25'' and a 14 bolt gm , the gm is more time and effort, and in the end not and upgrade from a 10.25'' ford.

but hey, giver guy

disc brake swap costs the same on pretty much every axle.
as far as aftermarket parts go the 14ff is not ahead of anyone.
I think you can get 4340 shafts for it now, but it was pretty much the last axle to have them available.
the first ones were the 35spline stuff like danas, sterlings are 1.5" 35spline but i am not sure if the flange bolt pattern was covered by the aftermarket like the danas (might even be the same pattern but I never had one so dunno)
14ff is a good axle, kind of a big brother to a 9" ford, but the housing shape and how far it hangs down is Fugly
personally i like the Dana70u out of fords, and am hunting for one out of a 95ish e350 with factory disc brakes for my next project

If you mean cross steer , the pitman arm (http://www.car-stuff.com/pitmanarm.htm) swings out over the leaf and you have watch how much drop is in the arm and limit up travel with bump stop .
With 4" lift only have about 3" clerance over leaf on a hard left turn . Great looken truck .

i only ask because i have thought about doing it myself on my bronco i want the frame to flex as little as possible because there is a little spot up at the top back of the roof on either side that tends to crack a bit on most broncos .... at least you didnt get the frame that was in the early 80's that ford decided to ''lighten'' and had the huge holes all the way down it lol

i only ask because i have thought about doing it myself on my bronco i want the frame to flex as little as possible because there is a little spot up at the top back of the roof on either side that tends to crack a bit on most broncos .... at least you didnt get the frame that was in the early 80's that ford decided to ''lighten'' and had the huge holes all the way down it lol
yeah man, it was tedious work for sure, and didn't feel all that great on the back, but in my mind it was worth it for sure, i am no fan of frame flex so hopefully it will eliminate most of it.[36]

welding the holes up wll do litle to stop frame flex
boxing it would
one of the problems with welding all the holes up
is some of them are refrence points for straightening frames
also dont weld to much in one area move around between rails
played with one of my frames on a computer frame bemch
a 2 inch long weld in middle of frame bowed rail almost 2 cm
looks good though man

If there is no work done on the heads , look at the after market heads. Most the time its cheaper and they are much better all round .

http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2429-Copy.jpg
axle pulled and fire wall finished with clean wires!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2430.jpg
gutted axle and stripped all, wire wheel in process here, stock shock mounts getting the boot!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2438.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2446-Copy.jpg
damn this thing was dirty and in need of a rebuild! stave kills!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2448.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2449-Copy.jpg
the axle tubes you could not see through, it was bad, to much sand and mud! tubes look like they took a shit, i used a 2'' wire wheel attached to a few extensions and gave'er
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2450.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2452-Copy.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2458.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2457.jpg
then used a broomstick and cloth and cleaned them out!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2459.jpg
alll clean!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2460.jpg
major clean to everything, all got wire wheel then a solvent scrub!
finished and painted!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2463.jpg
grinded the old stock mounts off and ready for mockup and new ones
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2464.jpg
gave it a coat of primer last night and some gloss black,
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2465.jpg
here are the leafs, i may use
54'' eye to eye. and off set by about 1 3/8''
they are rears so i cut the center pin to take the over load out
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2447.jpg
they are 2'' longer than my 52'' stock ones, so i can run a 6'' shackle and will sit just right for mock up. steering might be an issue, but hopefully can make it easier to clear the cross member.

todays list
finished axle rebuild. all new seals and bearing
new kingpin rebuild kit
finished custom leafs
dry fit and see how things will work![36]
more to come!

well today i didnt get much done, did lots of sitting and pondering about ideas
but here are some more of the painted goodies, early lordco run in the a.m. and get this thing finished and back under for some mockups!
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2474.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2473.jpg
also here are a few shots of the 54'' rears i am going to try and put in.
shot with a mockup 6'' shackle. i can see my pinion angle will need some tlc.
and hoping this will help moving forward an 1'' or 1 3/8'' somewhere around there:D
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2471.jpg
http://i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm417/proskimjb/IMG_2470.jpg
a shot form the front shows the rear 54'' on the left and the stock 52'' on right. looking like there will be much more lift.... not big on the whole high trucks, so will see where she sits after the motor. i like em low with big tiiires!
