View Full Version : HELP PLEASE!!! 95 YJ 4 Cyl wont start

05-16-2010, 03:09 PM
Hi All,
Have a wierd issue. Did oil change on my YJ this am. Finished up all seemed fine. Started it up and ran fine. Went back ah hour later to move Jeep and it would not start. Turns over almost catches then just cranks. I thought maybe coincidence the fuel filter was bad so I went to Lordco got new fuel filter and still nothing. If Jeep sits for a bit and I crank it it almost catches then nothing. I pulled the fuel line and there is fuel going to the system. there is fuel pressure in the lines I checked by relieveing the fuel pressure on the injector rail. I am at a total loss. Is there a way to test the fuel pump? If its putting enough pressure? I have no idea what to try next. If anyone can give a suggestion I would greatly apprciate it. This is my daily driver and I need it to get back running.
Thanks for any help you can give.

coil, or something electric

check for spark...

Never mind the fuck heads comments, check for spark for one, and to check the fuel pressure get a pressure tester that connects to the rail, should be 35psi or something, not completly sure on that one, but in the 30's, try priming the pump a few times, turning it to the start position but don't start it, you should hear the pump turn on, then turn it off for 3 seconds and then do the same thing again and try starting it, either that, check ur tps sensor and your crank positioning sensor,

make sure he battery is all charged up. the computer is really picky on voltage

well looks like its the pump I hear nothing when turning the key to on no pump noise. I disconnected the new fuel filter and left it disconnected. turned key nothing coming from fuel line. checked electrical and there is power going to the pump. battery is charged fully.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I guess I gotta find a pump. Anyone know how much they are?

Hey thanks for all the help everyone. Dropped the tank and replaced the pump. Unfortunately I had to do it alone, though i finally did get the tank back up lol. Was the pump. Seems like the Jeep is running better now. I guess the old pump wasnt putting out enough pressure. Got the pump from Gary's for 100 bucks. Sorry I didnt see the post bout the pump before I headed out to Gary's lol oh well 100 bucks not too bad.

Thanks again

you did all that work just to put a used pump in, not smart

I dunno some of the stuff u get these days is about as good as getting a used one..... sometimes they work other times ur going back to the parts store.

whats wrong with a used pump? get a new pump for 400 bucks and the fucking thing dosent work? same as if you get a used one for 100 and it dosent work so why pay 300 dollars extra? that sounds stupid,

good to hear that you figured out the problem, now go wheeling,

05-18-2010, 11:57 PM
thats y you always test things before putting them in, but on the 4.oL you dont need to drop the tank and changing the pumps are maybe 30minutes to replace.... so meh

and i got my bosch one for only 100 or 150 new from lordco

do your fuel filter if you havent all ready
